Obituary

Opal L. Giroux, 98 of Lake Zurich, passed away on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington following a lengthy illness.

She was born October 6, 1919 in Birmingham, Alabama, the daughter of Wilmer Olyius and Annie (Hambright) Dyer. She grew up in Royalton, Illinois and following her graduation from high school, moved to Chicago and started work with Hostess Bakery. She was united in marriage to Clinton P. Giroux on April 20, 1935. The couple made their home in Northlake, Illinois where they raised their family. They lived for a time in Northville, Michigan, but retired to Mountain Home, Arkansas. In 1989, they returned to Illinois. Following Clinton’s passing, Opal lived with her her daughter Jeri Lynne and later moved to Lake Zurich in 2007. She was an avid Cubs fan, enjoyed reading, cooking, flowers and especially time with her family.

She is survived by her children, Clint (Glenda) Giroux of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Lana (Bob) Book of Sunrise Beach, Missouri and Doug (Myrna) Giroux of Orange City, Florida, thirteen grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jeri Lynn Herlich.
