Dolores (“Dolly”) Shappert (nee Skrobicki)

Obituary

Dolores (“Dolly”) Shappert (nee Skrobicki) was born in Chicago on November 19, 1929 to Anthony and Lillian Skrobicki. Dolores grew up in the Humboldt Park neighborhood and attended St. Aloysius for grade school and Josephinum High School. Even though she grew up during the depression and money was tight, Dolores always remembers the fun she had with her younger sister, Viola and brother, Jerry, visiting with the cousins, enjoying Lincoln Park and Brookfield Zoo, traveling to her grandparent’s farm in northern Wisconsin and visiting her aunts who were religious sisters with the School Sisters of Notre Dame.
Dolores met the love of her life, Chester Shappert, while she was working as a “soda jerk” at an ice cream parlor. Chester would visit her at the ice cream shop and walk her home from work. They were married in 1951.
Dolores was an executive secretary for many years before retiring; but some habits from her career did not stop when she retired, she still wrote all her notes in shorthand, even her grocery lists!
Dolores enjoyed cooking, volunteering, entertaining and making new friends. She was fortunate to have friends and family that loved to travel with Dolores. Besides traveling within the lower 48 states, Dolores also traveled to Europe, the Middle East, Greece, Poland, Hawaii and Canada.
In addition to traveling, Dolores loved to try different things and was always ready for a new adventure, she also loved all kinds of music and dancing, including the waltz and her all-time favorite, the polka.
But most of all, Dolores loved being with her large family. Dolores will be missed greatly by many, including her sister, Viola and her brother Jerry and many friends and family members including nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to thank Dr. Ifzal Bangesh, the staff at Valley Hi Nursing Home and the staff at JourneyCare hospice.
