Bounthay Phakaysone, 70, passed away on February 2, 2024 at Sherman Hospital with her family by her bedside. Bounthay was born on April 3, 1953 in Ban Phakhanha, Savannakhet, Laos to Keeling and Sinon Lunammachack.
Bounthay finished school in 1965 in Ban Phakhanha. After communists took over Laos, she escaped to a refugee camp in Thailand. In 1980, she settled in Elgin, IL, and in 1984, she married her husband, Ma.
Bounthay was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend to all. She loved gardening and cooking; it brought her much joy to see people enjoy her food.
Bounthay is survived by her children, Janda (Jerry), Dan, her four grandchildren, Jocelyn, Saiyuri, Arya, Ayla, her siblings, Somchay Lunammachack, Malay Philavong, and Norkham Lunammachack. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ma, her parents, Keeling and Sinon, and her brother, Somsanith Lunammachack.
"A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 8, 2024 from 1 to 4 PM at DeFiore Funeral 10763 Dundee Rd, Huntley, IL 60142. Following the service, we will be holding a gathering at 1148 Leawood Dr, Elgin, IL 60120. All family and friends are warmly invited."
