Obituary

Mary Ann M. Balla, 72 of Sun City, Huntley, passed away on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at Presence Saint Joseph Hospital following a lengthy illness.

She was born August 3, 1945 in Chicago, the daughter of Vito and Magdalen (Tasson) Scopa. She was raised in Chicago and graduated from Notre Dame High School. She was united in marriage to Robert J. Balla on May 1, 1971 and resided in Mt. Prospect. Mary Ann worked as an administrative assistant for many years. She enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, baking goodies and being a grandma. She was a wonderful mother, nana, aunt and a friend to so many.

She is survived by her daughters, Jill Balla Kohn and her husband, Richard, Jennie Gruener, her husband Scott, and their daughters Hailie and Hana and her brother, Dominic Scopa of Huntley. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Joseph and Salvatore and her sister, Catherine.

Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 1st at the DeFiore-Jorgensen Funeral & Cremation Service, 10763 Dundee Road, Huntley. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday and the family will greet friends from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the mass at St. Mary Catholic Church, 10307 Dundee Road, Huntley. Mary Ann was a wonderful neighbor. She so enjoyed veggies from our garden. We will miss her.
