James Carlin, 69 of Algonquin died Saturday, August 18, 2012 at Sherman Hospital.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at DeFiore Jorgensen Funeral Home-10763 Dundee Road, Huntley. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Thursday at St. Mary Catholic Church-10307 Dundee Road, Huntley. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery. James was born March 13, 1943 the son of Edward and Catherine (Murphy) Carlin. He graduated from Marist High School and later from St. Peters College in Jersey City. He served in the United States Marines. He married Carol Barakso on February 19, 1965. He was originally from New Jersey, lived in Chicago area for 30 + years. He travelled and worked in Latin America, Europe and much of the U.S. Jim’s first job was in manufacturing systems and during his career rose to the ranks of senior IT management positions, eventually to executive positions including Director of IT at Baxter Health Care and CIO of Baxter Renal Division and most recently CIO of Gerber. In recent years, Jim was active and interested in politics at all levels. He often volunteered for local political activities and enjoyed writing about the issues he felt were most important to our country.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Carlin, his children, Jay (fianc Kelly) Carlin, Mike (Christine) Carlin and Suzanne (best friend Jim) Carlin. He is survived by his grandchildren, Kaitlin, Jessica, Ryan and Natalie, by his closest cousins, Diane (Jeff) Carlin-Bartel, Peggy (Bob) Parsons. He also leaves behind many cherished animals.
He is preceded in death by his parents.

To the Carlin family ... I was a year behind Jim at Marist and like Jim played basketball for the Knights. I truly admired his talents on the court I also walked the same halls at St. Peters and used to see and chat with Jim many times over the years we both attended there. Truly going to miss Jim. Rest assured he is with the Lord. God bless. Bob

Carol/Family: Very sorry to hear about Jim. Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, but love leaves a memory no one can steal. FAITH- knows God has answers for questions that seem impossible HOPE- holds on the promise that no farewell is forever. LOVE- understands that it still hurts to say goodbye.
