Katherine Gail (Beyer) Lucchetti, age 80, of Hampshire, IL passed away peacefully in her home on Friday morning June 22, 2018 after battling cancer for the past year with a spirit and bravery that inspired those around her.
Katherine, or “Kay” as many called her, was born October 30, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois, and played meaningful roles in many people’s lives during her 80 years on this earth: Loving daughter to Edward and Harriet (Lee) Beyer; caring sister to Virginia, Jack, Eddie and Lee; beautiful wife and “Katie” to John F. Lucchetti for 62 years; tough, sweet mother to their five children; feisty “Gma Kay” to 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; aunt, cousin, friend, co-worker, neighbor to many more.
She loved and cared for all animals. She had a bold, infectious smile, laugh and spirit. She was tough as nails with a soft, warm heart. She was an avid reader with an enviable vocabulary. She called all of her children by their full first names, always. She loved sweets. And she hated mushrooms because, “They taste like dirt.”
After her kids were grown, she worked for Dr. Tuthill and for many years with Polk Bros. in Elgin, IL and Schaumburg, IL. Her charisma and charm made her an excellent salesperson.
Katherine is loved, remembered and celebrated by her husband John, her five children; Steven Lucchetti, Donald (Teri) Lucchetti, Susan (Michael) Abbott, Dianne Lucchetti, and Richard Lucchetti; her grandchildren Tonya, Scott, Kenneth, Daniel, Andrea, Kathleen, Allison, Nicole, Amanda, Nina, Frank, and Kortney; and great-grandchildren Alexander, Aric, Vincent, Kane, Duke, Mia, Brody, Kali, John, Leonardo, and Aria, and many other family members and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at DeFiore Funeral Home 10763 Dundee Road in Huntley, IL from 4:00 to 8:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking donations be made to the Chicago Audubon Society https://www.chicagoaudubon.org/ or the Chicago Botanic Gardens https://www.chicagobotanic.org/donate
