Richard G. Thommes, age 78, of Huntley, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on October 23, 1939, the son of Peter and Margaret Weishaar Thommes.Rich was a proud veteran having served for 6 years in the United States Navy as a Seabee. He then worked for over 51 years as a plant manager at American Rivet Co. (Jebco). Rich had a passion for golf and played for 27 years with a group of his good friends-John Boronka, Carl Damlos, and Bob Damlos and was thrilled to play the game with Liam and his God-child, Tim Higgins. Rich loved his huge family and enjoyed baking and cooking for them, friends and the food kitchen in Wildwood. He will be truly missed by all who knew him.
Rich is survived by his wife, Janet Van de Walker Thommes; Daughter, Kristin Jane McClure, D.V.M.; Step-daughter, Catherine Van de Walker Bolton (Lt. Colonel James Bolton); Grandchildren, Liam, Jude, James, Sinead; siblings, Thomas(Reta Kerrick) Thommes, James(Nancy)Thommes, Peter(Late Helen) Thommes, Joan (Robert) Kraus, Diane (John) Becker, Kathleen (John) Schneider, Carolyn(Patrick) Crowley, Marguerite (John) Higgins; and 30 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Margaret Thommes; first wife, Mary Rule Thommes; second wife, Esther Bates Brosch Thommes; his child, Karen Jean Thommes, Kristin’s twin; sister Elaine (Thomas) Jones; son- in-law, Shawn McClure. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 23, 2018 from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm at DeFiore Funeral Home, 10763 Dundee Road, Huntley, IL. An additional visitation will be held from 9:00am until 10:00am on Friday, August 24, 2018 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 10307 Dundee Rd, Huntley, IL, with a Mass starting at 10:00am. Interment will follow at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Cemetery, 1185 Algonquin Road, Palatine, IL.
In Lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in Richard’s name to the St. Mary Youth Group, 10307 Dundee Rd, Huntley, IL.
