Jonathan W. Gouriotis (2001-2018)
Jonathan W. Gouriotis, 16, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2018 at his home in Elgin.
Jonathan, affectionately known as ‘Finn’, was born December 30, 2001 as the middle son of John and Traci Gouriotis. Although he was taken from us far too soon, Finn experienced an extraordinary life and lived it to the fullest. At the age of 5 he received a liver transplant, and despite those circumstances, he was determined and fought to be a normal kid. He was a natural golfer at a young age and discovered a true love for the sport.
A Burlington Central High School Rocket, Finn enjoyed driving and the freedom that it gave him. He was a beautiful old soul that drew everyone to him; he was always thinking of others. Finn had many passions: golf, 80’s movies, Jimmy John’s, shopping, and spending time with his friends and loved ones.
This summer he was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma and had recently finished his chemotherapy. Finn would not let the diagnosis define him or stop him from enjoying life during treatment. He was a remarkable and loving son, brother, grandson, cousin, and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his parents, John and Traci Gouriotis; his brothers, Argirios “AJ” and Nicholas; his grandparents, Ron and Caryle Jerrick and Argirios and Karen Gouriotis; and a loving family of many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will be on Sunday, October 28 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at DeFiore Funeral Home, 10763 Dundee Road, Huntley. A private family funeral will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Jonathan’s honor may be directed to Lurie’s Children Hospital Foundation.

He was a great athlete, student and person. Jonathan was mature beyond his years. He was always polite towards his teachers and peers. Everyone in his class liked him and were drawn to his great personality. I will always cherish the memories that I have of him.

Your family is certainly on our minds and in our hearts during this time of immense sadness. John was so much more than an athlete and so much more than a student. We felt honored and privileged that John chose to invite us into his life and his world; His impact has left an indelible mark on our lives. He's still the only student who we've trusted to hold Reese shortly after his birth. John affectionately referred to himself as "the Godfather." While we're all overcome with grief, we find comfort in reminiscing about John's impact on CHS, the golf team, and our lives.

I'm so very sorry for the pain his death has caused the whole Family, but know that he is safe in Gods memory awaiting for His time when He will instruct His Son, Jesus Christ to fulfill the words he spoke in John 5:28,29 which is really a Guarrantee that he will do and that is he will resurrect your Son, Finn back to life again and be able to spend forever with him, to which has given me some comfort as knowing that Psalm 37:29 which says: The righteous will possess the earth and they will live forever on it. So may these words help your Family find some comfort in knowing that one day, many of you, who have loved him, from the start, will be able to wrap your arms around him, in the future and never have the fear of dying, because God will do away with death, as He says in 1 Cor. 15:26.
Miss you Fin???? we didn’t talk much but I hope you are resting in peace.
Dear Family of Finn, I am so svery sorry to read of the death of your dear Finn. May "the God of all comfort" (2 Corinthians 1:3&4) provide you comfort during this very difficult time. One way he does this is by means of the promise of the Resurrection at John 6:40. Yes, a time when we will be reunited with our loved ones again. May you find hope in the Bible's promises. Once again my deepest sympathies.
