Obituary

Gregory R. Thomas, 35 of Woodstock, died March 27, 2019, following a severe traumatic brain injury.

Greg was born December 16, 1983, to Roger and Virginia Thomas. He graduated from Woodstock High School in 2002 and Winona State University in 2006.

Greg was an Eagle Scout with BSA Troop 159, Woodstock, IL. He had a lifelong love of music and writing. While at Winona, he played clarinet in the Dixie Midnight Runners band. He was active with the Woodstock-based Atrocious Poets club and enjoyed working out at the Woodstock Recreation Center. Most recently he was working at the Woodstock Theater. He loved the outdoors, bicycling, and tending his garden and fruit trees. He will be remembered for his humor, creativity, courage, generosity and kindness.

He is survived by his father Roger, siblings Ben, Katrina, and Amanda, dog Shadow and cat Sherbert. He adopted his pets while volunteering with McHenry County animal control. He was preceded in death by his mother Virginia, who died March 15, 2019.

Visitation will be April 4 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at DeFiore Funeral Home, 10763 Dundee Road, Huntley, IL 60142. For further information, call DeFiore Funeral Home at 847-515-8772.

A celebration of Greg’s life will be Friday, April 5th, 6PM at The Waverly Ballroom, 214 Main S., Woodstock IL 60098.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to support the local animal control and adoption center through the McHenry County Department of Health, 100 North Virginia St, Crystal Lake, IL 60014.
