Betty Lou Calhoun (Mammie), 88, of Huntley Illinois passed away peacefully at home August 16, 2019.
Betty was born July 14, 1931 in Chicago Illinois to Nathaniel and Ethel Dabbs. She married her loving husband Carl October 29th, 1949. They started out in the city of Chicago and later moved their family to the suburb of Wauconda.
Betty was a hard worker. She put in many years at Accutronics in Cary Il. After her retirement she helped at the Wauconda Nursing home. Betty loved playing the slot machines and Bingo and was a big fan of the Game Show Network.
Survivors include her children, Gary (Barb) Calhoun, Patrick (Ronda) Calhoun, April (Robert) Shufelt, Karen Calhoun. Her grandchildren, Arin (Darren) Marino, Tim Nichols, Kyle Shufelt, Lea Shufelt, Brian Calhoun, Jeremy (Jessica) Dean, Amy (Eddie) Nguyen, Shelbe (Zakk) Schneiderman, and K.C. Kuder. 13 great grandchildren, Austin, Madalyn, Danny, Kristofer, Kaleb, Noah, Liam, JR, Jolie, EJ, Ethan, Easton, and Gibson.
She was preceded in death by her husband Carl Calhoun, sister, Mary Nicpon, and her brother Leroy Dabbs.
Visitation will be on Saturday, August 24, 2019 from 11:00am -2:00pm with a service at 1:00pm all at DeFiore Funeral Home-10763 Dundee Road, Huntley.

For 55 years I could call Betty Calhoun my friend through the bakery and selling Avon and officiating Calhoun Family Events. As the years went by, our lives became even more entwined through her loving children, my brother Michael Dean, my godson Jeremy and his children, and my sister by another Mother...Karen Calhoun. I have always considered the entire 'clan' ... FAMILY. My heart is sad at the passing of their beloved Mother, Grandmother and Dear Friend. Betty surely was an amazing woman who accepted everyone in her life unconditionally. I will not be in town to join you in the Celebration of Mammie's life, yet my thoughts and prayers are abundantly surrounding you all. I know she has been welcomed home as our Father says "Welcome home Betty, my good and faithful servant". I loved you in life Betty and into the next world.....please give Brother Michael a BIG HUG from me :)
May God give the entire Calhoun family omfort and peace during this difficult time. She was loved and respected by many and will be greatly missed.

One of my favorite memories growing up was heading out to Wauconda for long days of activities, food and laughter. Aunt Betty and Uncle Carl were always happy (unless we really screwed up). Happy they are together again . Love to Gary, Pat, April, and Karen and their families.

We are so sorry to hear of the loss of your beloved "Mammie" Gary & Barb. She sure sounds like a wonderful, accepting, sweet person. While I'm sure she is happily reunited with her loved ones above, this must be hard on all of you who will greatly miss her here on earth. We are thinking of you and keeping you in our prayers.
