I am so sorry for the Briglio family. Deepest sympathy to you folks. I played softball with Tom in Huntley and he was a class act on and off the field. I remeber him coming out to the field with Wayne Weber as he tried so hard to keep playing. He was an inspiration to me that I will never forget. Our prayers are with you all and may God bring you peace. Mike D.

My deepest condolences to the Briglio family. I also played softball with Tom in Huntley. Tom was one of the first ballplayers I met at Huntley. So friendly and welcoming and a true pleasure to play ball with. He was always the complete gentleman - a role model for all. He will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family. Jim

It was a better day for me when I would see Tom on the field, even if he would rob me of hits. And we both appreciated the coincidence that we both had sons working in Towson, Maryland. I can think of no higher praise for Tom than he was a great player, teammate, and, most importantly, a good man.

Marlene and family, I offer my sincere sympathy to you at this time of Tom's death. it is normal for us as humans to morn the loss and absence of a loved one - a father, husband, dad, grandfather, uncle, boss, co-worker, fellow ballplayer. As we no longer can see, hear from, talk to, share time with that loved one, friend, etc. we can cherish the fond memories during this life time. Time is one of many gifts our creator grants us, and I am grateful for the times I played softball with Tom. He was a team man and humble in relating to fellow players, teammates as well as opponents. We met in our 60's and played on travel/tournament teams together, followed by time in a recreation league team in the Palatine Park District. I was always glad to see Tom and as a pitcher, I was always supported by his defensive play in the outfield, and liked how he handled the bat and demonstrated solid offense. May you find comfort in these scripture verses from the Book of Proverbs in the Bible: Proverbs 3: 5 & 6 "Trust in the Lord (God) with all your heart and don't depend on your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge Him (Jesus) and He will direct your paths".

I only knew Tom from softball in 2019 when I started joining the pick-up games we have at Melas Park in Mt Prospect. Tom was very welcoming as I started my return to softball last year. He had a wonderful smile that made me feel good immediately. I had looked forward to seeing him again this Spring and getting to know him better. I am very sorry for you loss and it is obvious Tom's effect was positive on all those he knew. I wish you peace.

Dear Mar and Family, We have known all of you for so many years that it would take a book to relate them all. It started when our daughters were in the same Class at Barrington High School and Dave was one of my basketball players. Going forward through the years as our friendship grew, we did a lot of things but mostly it seemed to revolve around baseball. Our trip to see Danny Wilson in Cincinnati before being traded to Seattle. We feel that the ultimate trip came when we went to Dyersville, Iowa to the Field of Dreams and meeting and interacting with the Ghost Team. On Sunday when Tom passed, all we could think about was Tom and James Earl Jones walking into the cornfield together. Tom, young and old was the ultimate ball player and true friend. Please know that we are always grateful that you were our friends. Our sincere condolences and prayers. Gene and Jane Dawson

How does one day goodbye to a man like Tom. I was very fortunate to have had played softball with Tom in Sun City, Huntley Park District, Sr Olympic's and for a number of years in the senior circuit of travel ball. Here was a man that no matter what the outcome of a game was never changed his demeanor. He just loved playing softball. The bigger the game the better he played. His hustle, great catches and timely hitting will provide those who played with him memories that will last forever. Tom had great faith , loved his family dearly and cherished his retirement years living in Sun City. I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to say my final goodbyes to Tom the day before he passed on to a better place. Thank you, Marlene. This I will cherish forever. Rest in God's peace, #15, teammate & friend.

I met Tom through playing softball and volleyball with him. We became friends who joked, talked, and most of all revered the spirit of sport. Tom exemplified the thought of doing the best for a team, and having fun while doing so. I hadn't played softball in 35 years when I joined up at Huntley and found myself being cheered on by Tom to get a base hit to right field. Now I didn't have that much faith in myself, and still don't, but it seems that encouragement made it happen and a couple of runs scored. That happened a lot around Tom. A person like that may not always be the All-Star, but you can bet that someone on his team will be better both as a player and as a person because they knew him. I am and I thank you, Tom. Have fun in the next league.

Tony Inzerillo & the Chicago Strikers 2020-05-09 16:09:35

Tom was my hero. That may sound dramatic but I and the Strikers always admired the way he went about softball and his life. He was unimpressed with himself but all of us who watched him play were impressed. I always told him that when I grow up I wanted to be just like him. I know that the last couple of year have been hard on him and the family. Whenever I saw him lately you would not realize how difficult it must have been to see all of us out playing the game we love. He may be gone now but we will never forget him.

Marlene, so sorry to hear about Tom passing 4 days before my Jack. I'll bet the two of them will meet in heaven and be playing softball as they did for so many years with the Geezers. I know you took hundreds of pictures of them playing softball. My sympathy to you and your family.

Speaking for the Geezers, we will miss Tom for his good nature, competitive spirit and all around team play. While he played, he was an outstanding fielder and hitter. When he couldn't play anymore he was our best 3rd base coach ever. Wanting to be with his team through all he had endured was what we all admired in him. Marlene, we are all sorry for your loss. The senior softball world has also lost a great person.

Jan Drevline 2020-05-20 19:57:25

So sorry to hear of your loss. Bill passed away two years ago. I remember when they played Poker on Central and played baseball with the "Rats". I know he will be missed. He touched many lives.

Dear Tom, may your gentle and kind Soul be healed and rest happily in Heaven. I was your Caregiver in your final days and you were so kind and so funny. I wanted you to recover and stay with your loving Family and Ella. But the Lord did not want you to suffer anymore. And now you're in Heaven with him, may your gentle Soul rest happily in Heaven forever, Amen.

Tony Raia 2020-06-03 12:31:19

To the ultimate Dad-man, Dear Mr. Briglio, As one of your son's best friends I have many memories of our time growing up with so much of it spent in the basement of your home. You were the coolest Dad ever... allowing us boys to do what boys do as far as access to the Briglio Van, playing pool, watching movies late into the night and just being young and silly men. But the memory that sticks with me is how you lived your life after a major heart event. I remember all those medals and photos hanging in the basement in Barrington of you running in multiple races. All the pics of your sporting events and teams you played on. You are Superman and I admire how you pushed on the gas pedal even harder after such an event that would have slowed any other man down. YOU are a great example for your family and especially for one of my best friends, your son, Dave. We can all learn from how you lived your life and it was as full as any man that could live 150 years! Amen to you and your example. You may truly live in peace in your afterlife and know you did it all right! God bless you and your family from me and all that you have ever come in contact with one way or another!

Tommy, as we knew him then, was born just a few weeks before I was, and we were classmates at St. Stanislaus Bishop & Martyr Elementary School. All the beautiful words written about him by his friends revolve around his adult years, even his senior years; but my memories match those and am grateful that, at least for our childhood years, we walked the same path towards adulthood and maturity. May choirs of angels welcome him into paradise. Sincerest condolences to his family.
