Eileen A. Claussen, 74, of Huntley, died on Tuesday, May 19, 2020.
Eileen was born on June 7, 1945 in Chicago, to parents Thomas and Miriam (nee Scanlan) Carey.
Eileen married her high school sweetheart, Joe, on September 3rd, 1966. Together, they raised four children and became the proud grandparents to nine grandchildren. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and put her family first in everything she did. She was a quick-witted prankster, who always kept her family on their toes. She was thoughtful, kind, and considerate, and was beloved by all who knew her. A converted Cubs fan, Eileen adored sports, and cheered for all the Chicago teams. Eileen’s life was informed by her Catholic faith and was the compass by which she llived her life and led her family.
Eileen is survived by her beloved husband of over 54 years, Joe, her children, Lisa (Adam) Kommers, Tom (Anne) Claussen, and Michael (Beth) Claussen, her grandchildren, Caitlyn, Nicholas, Aidan, Violet, Caiden, Ryan, Megan, Teagan, and Ben, her siblings, Kathy (Tom) Moore, and Tom (Patti) Carey, and many nieces and nephews.
Eileen was preceded in death by her son, Joe Claussen, Jr, her parents Thomas and Miriam Carey, and her sister Sheila (Greg) Semmer.
A private funeral mass will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2020.
In lieu of flowers, Eileen requested that people remember her by making a donation either to the scholarship in her son’s name at the University of Notre Dame (The Joseph Claussen Memorial Scholarship Fund - must be noted on the check or donation, Memorial Fund Office of Planned Giving; 1100 Grace Hall, South Bend, IN 46556), or to the Sinsinawa Dominican Sisters (https://www.sinsinawa.org). She requested that donation to the Sinsinawa sisters include her maiden name (Eileen Carey Claussen).
