Diane Judith Pawelek

Obituary

Diane Judith Pawelek, 78, of Huntley, died peacefully on June 17, 2020.
Diane was born in 1941, in Chicago to parents Fred and Bernice (nee Dyda) Hall.
Diane was a loving wife and mother who cherished and loved her family. Diane married her husband, John Pawelek, in 1964, at St. Aloysius in Chicago and together they had two daughters. They loved to travel as a family, and share many fond memories of camping, antiquing, road trips, and a mother-daughter trip to Germany and Poland. Diane strived to learn about the world around her and shared her passion for learning with her students. She had a Masters in Linguistics and taught for thirty years. After moving to Del Webb in 2006, Diane and John became very active in their neighborhood and loved to visit with friends and neighbors. She made her house a home and spent endless hours in their beautiful garden. A devout animal lover, Diane was always donating to animal charities. She rescued many pets over the years and loved to be with her dog, Julia.
Diane is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, John Pawelek, her daughters, Paige (Tom) Mistak, and Wendy (Pawelek), her dog, Julia, her grandpuppies, Wilson, Marley, and Maizel, and her grandkitty, Kitty.
Diane was preceded in death by her brothers, George (Maureen) Sekenski, and Ronald Hall.

Dearest family, Words are never adequate in moments like these. We will say though, that our hearts go out to you, and I will always remember the joyous memories that I am privileged to have in knowing your mom Diane Pawelek!!

37 years of friendship with John and Diane began in Pokagon State Park at a campground! Us in a tent and them in a swanky camper!! A beautiful friendship that grew into my family I will always treasure. John and Diane are more a brother and sister to me, and grandparents to my children, who we’re so fortunate to have them in their lives. Diane had a softness and kindness about her and she was one of the wisest women I have ever known. Never critical, with a beautiful giggle and always with the love of her life, John. We are all so much richer to have loved her.

John We have a lot of wonderful memories, which started at Cathedral High School and then after our meeting again at the SAO and our retirements. She will be in our prayers.

John,Paige, and Wendy, Sorry for your loss, but remember she fought the good fight and has now won the race. Diane was a special person. We were quite lucky to have her as a neighbor. I loved being in Book Club with her and sharing many conversations that were inspiring yet light-hearted. That she was of kind heart and word and always interesting and great to be with.

John, Paige and Wendy, Please accept my deepest sympathy. I remember well our days together at Stratford, filled with love laughter and dedication. May her memory be a blessing during this difficult time. Sending my “virtual” hugs and held hands...Ann Straus-Goldsmith
