So sorry for your family’s loss. The last time Matthew and I interacted was a few years ago when I gave him a free ticket to a Beirut concert that I couldn’t attend in Chicago. He was so happy. I still remember him being a little kid playing video games. Love and prayers for Matthew and everyone.

I loved Matt the moment I’d met him. He was eight years of age and awake past midnight. He was the only eight year old that I’d ever met who wrote an essay in school regarding a need to legalize cannabis use. Matt would laugh whenever I’d call him Short Round, named after a character in Indiana Jones. He had a knack for using his completely random thought sense of humor and having it all tie together with a subject matter. I won’t ever forget about the time when he wanted to get drunk at high elevation, so he hiked to the top of Norge Ski Jump and after a few bottles of beer, he’d decided to let go of his other six pack because he wanted to see how far they’d make it down the slope. Surprisingly they made it all the way down the slope and when the box had slid past the jump, the bottles flew into the air and clinked one another before crashing into the ground below.

I knew Matt in highschool and outside of highschool and would occasionally hangout with some other friends. Lost touch many years ago until I looked him up and saw this. They say it gets better, in a ghoulish way, with time. But it only hurts more each year you’re not here.
