Julia Margaret Schalk, 68, of Huntley, formerly Chicago, died on October 25, 2020.
Julia was born in Chicago on August 18, 1952 to parents James and Mary (nee Thompson) Fletcher. Julia was a proud Police Sergeant with the Chicago Police Department where she served for twenty-five years. On March 2, 1991, she married fellow Police Detective Raymond Schalk and they spent many happy years together traveling the world. Julia was a loyal friend, and beloved by all who knew her. She will be greatly missed.
Julia is survived by her husband of 29 years, Raymond Schalk, her siblings, Connie (Trygve Thoreson) Fletcher, Bob Fletcher, and Jim Fletcher, numerous cousins, and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 30, 2020 at 10 a.m. at Huntley Cemetery, 11500 Dean Street, Huntley.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Julia’s name can be made to the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation and the American Cancer Society.

Julie was a beautiful person, both inside and out. She was more than a friend, she was family. We have many wonderful memories of Julie that we will always cherish. She will be missed by many. Ray, Connie, Bob, Jim and family, please accept my deepest sympathies on the loss of Julie. We worked together in the 23rd District and saw each other at reunions and such over the years. She always lit up a room with her beauty and laughter. I heard her say that marrying Ray made her feel like the luckiest person on Earth. I believe she led the happiest possible life. Author George Eliot wrote, "Our dead are never dead to us until we have forgotten them." We'll always remember Julie and her memory will be a blessing.
I worked with Julie on the Tac Team in 023. There were no bad days when she was around. An impressive police woman. Always a smile on her face. The Team would have card partys in her coach house on Jackson Blvd. Julie never played but always prepared the food (sometimes with a little cat hair). She was always a good sport. She was our "door opener" when we did many Warrants. Why use force when you had a pretty red head to knock on the door and ask to use the phone "Please". Many arrestees regretted being naive. I worked with Julie untill we both made Detective in '87. She met my wife and sons and we are all saddened by her passing. God bless you Ray and condolences to entire Fletcher family.
Julie was so strong and vibrant able to work with a group of guys. She had the best sense of humor! So sorry,
I am heartbroken to read that Julie has passed away. I was in her class at the CPD Academy. I was a friend of hers on FB, but did not know she was even sick. She was such a great person, and we used to share the fact that we were the only 2 redheads in our class. I hope that all your funny, wonderful memories of Julie, comfort you now, and in the difficult days ahead. She will never be forgotten by all the people who were lucky enough to know her.
