Henry Rhodes Hundley, 87, of Huntley, formerly of DeTour, Michigan, died peacefully on November 13, 2020 at JourneyCare Barrington.
Rhodes was born on January 24, 1933 in Detroit, Michigan to parents Bernard and Lois (nee Lusk) Hundley. Rhodes reconnected with his high school sweetheart, Janet Brewin and they married on July 2, 1988. They shared a love for life and loved to travel together. He used music to bring joy to those around him and was a gifted piano player. Rhodes is remembered by his loved ones as a caring and compassionate man. He will be greatly missed.
Rhodes is survived by his wife of 32 years, Janet Hundley, his children, Tom Hundley, and Kristen Hundley, his step-children, Craig (Beverly) Brass, David (Paula) Brass, and Ellen (Glenn) Nissen, his grandchildren, Kayla, Cameron, Riley, Jack, Haley, Charlie, and Nicholas, and his sister, Susan (Gordy) Blakeman.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at DeFiore Funeral Home, 10763 Dundee Road, Huntley. The service will be streamed on the DeFiore Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/defiorefuneral/

Dear Janet, I am so very sorry to learn of your loss. I've missed you and Rhodes since you left Silver Lakes and I'm sorry you have to miss him now, too. He will always be remembered as loving and generous man.
Rhodes was a wonderful neighbor with a great sense of humor. My fondest memory is Janet and Rhodes annual neighborhood Christmas party. Rhodes would play Christmas songs on the piano, and we all sang along using our numbered lyric songbooks. Cherish the memories; we were all blessed to have known him. Dear Love, we were so disheartened to hear Rhodes has passed. We can only offer our sympathy and prayers for you and the family. He was such a special gentleman and talented as well. We loved that he shared his music with us at SL and the many he entertained at various nursing homes. We have missed you both and hope you know we share your sorrow. I only met your father once, but our book club was graced with his piano playing at that visit. Everyone in our book club felt we knew Rhodes from listening to Janet’s many funny family stories. Sending peace and comfort to your family.
Janet, I am so sad for you but celebrate your long love affair. May your memories sustain you. I will remember the evening with our book group spent at your home while Rhodes entertained us on the piano.
Dear Janet, you know how much Rick and I loved Rhodes. He was truly a gentle man and we were blessed to share with him stories of Denison University and his love of Granville. You and he were lucky to have many years of love and happiness together.

I'm so sorry to hear that our sweet Rhodes has passed. I always loved sitting next to him and hearing his stories. I remember the last time I saw him he said "... Little katie has grown.." and it made me so very happy. I was so happy he got to meet Levi and I wish he could have met Finnley. Janet, we are so sorry to hear of Rhodes passing. He was such a gentleman in the truest sense, and had the drollest sense of humor. He was always ready and willing to accompany groups at SL. I am so sorry to learn of Rhodes passing. He was a wonderfully talented man in Silver Lakes where we came to know him. Our prayers and sympathies to Janet and their family.
I'm late to finding out, but Mr Hundley was my 7th grade social studies teacher at East Middle School and we all loved his class & would stay after school sometimes to watch movies of some historical relevance to what we'd been studying. He would write these songs about the world and history and he'd sing them to us and have us sing while he played piano. When he moved he gave us a map of where he was moving to and said we were always welcome to visit. I never did make it around but I've thought of him often. My condolences, he will be sorely missed.
