Joe enjoyed watching birds and drinking a good Manhattan. Joe was always young at heart, he and Barbara enjoyed traveling to Hawaii. My father always had a smile on his face and time to help others. He was a man who cherished family and friends. I will think of him every time I see a Jaguar, hear the score of a White Sox game, and see a Manhattan glass with a cherry on top. Visions of my dad riding along in my golf cart reading the paper will forever permeate my hours on the greens. His love of Hostess cupcakes had me running to the corner store daily as a young child. I will remember my father's mischievous antics, including the day he evaded the police (who were chasing him and my brother for discharging fireworks) by calmly taking off his shirt and sitting on the front stoop telling the police which way the villains had gone. I remember when he stopped smoking, and when he shaved off his signature mustache. I hope they have bowling alleys, Scrabble, horseshoes, bars, fishing poles, music, and dancing where he is going; otherwise, I don't think he'll want to stay. Love you, Dad!

Uncle Joe will be missed! He was the family character--always a joke and could be counted on to bring the fun. Quintessential Polka King of my childhood. I'll never forget the day he took the family's Godmother, Gisella Moltar (in her 80s at the time), on a wild ride in a Jaguar convertible. She donned her babushka, but you could still see her curls blowing in the breeze as he sped down the street, with the biggest smile on her face. Or sneaking Danny a drink no one else was looking. The jokes. The life in his eyes. Mirth. This is the way we'll always remember Uncle Joe. Fast and Funny and full of Fire. God bless you and know you will be missed, Uncle Joe. Give a hug to Mom, play some Jumble with Aunt Rosemary, watch the Cubs with Uncle John and have a beer with Danny and Glenn and Uncle Jim. They've been waiting for you to bring it back! We'll see you dancing again too soon but not soon enough. Love, Mary Beth

I always enjoyed (Uncle) Joe at our family parties. He always had a good story or joke to tell, we always enjoyed a good cocktail together, and he had an infectious laugh. Joe, you will be missed. Condolences to Barb and family.

Our family parties were always more fun and livelier with Uncle Joe in attendance. I am also very grateful that Uncle Joe and my mom had such a close relationship. In all the pictures I have of them together, they are either laughing or dancing. As they grew older, I was comforted by the fact that they talked to each other at least once a day. The Horist siblings are now all reunited and reminiscing about the fun times they had together dancing, traveling and sharing a good joke! Will miss you Uncle Joe. So sorry for your loss Barb, Genny, Joe and Regina.

I met Joe 46 years ago. He was so congenial, everyone felt at ease around him. Want to hear a story? Just mention "Jaguar" and he would have an entertaining response. We should all carry such pleasant memories of Joe's life. My family's sympathies for your loss of Joe.

I'm sorry for your loss. I'll be praying for you and your family. I have such a funny and sweet memory of me and Joe. One day I went over to your house and Joe and I decided to play an Arthur matching game. As we sat down at the table we laid all the cards out and sat across from one another. The object of the game was to have the most matches by the end of the game. Then, as we started to play I noticed that he was stealing my matches. Haha! He was cheating! We instantly started laughing so hard and had smiles on our faces. I remember how hard he was laughing and how funny this moment was. I will always remember this memory and Joe! Sending lots of love to everyone! Love, Emma.

Dear Barbara, we are so sorry to hear about Joe. Joe was one of a kind! He always had a smile on his face, up to mischief, a good drink at hand and a story to tell. Joe will be missed, I hope your memories of Joe bring you peace and comfort during this difficult time. We love you and will be praying for Joe, you and your family. Our deepest sympathy, Rick, Diane and Emma

We are so sad to lose Joe. He was a wonderful part of our lives. We enjoyed many good times with him and Barb. He was a kind and supportive stepdad to Gina and Adam. He loved Barb and always complimented her after a good meal. Dinners at the Horist house will never be the same with an empty seat at the table. Life with Joe was the best of times.
