Obituary

James J. Bartel, 78 of Huntley, died peacefully December 13, 2020.
Due to COVID, services are private. The family will be having a celebration of life when it is safe to do so. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
James was born November 15, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois the son of the late Stanley and Mary Bartel (Laba). On October 15, 1963 he married the love of his life, Barbara Ann Suchocki. He worked at Union Special for many years and in retirement he worked at the Crystal Lake Ace Hardware, a job he loved and was known as “Mr. Fix It”. Jim was kind to everyone he met and took great pleasure in helping people. Anything he could do, big or small, Jim was always willing to help. He was active in Sun City Softball and was a member of the “Agents” team. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid Cub’s Fan, enjoyed softball and bowling and was part of the Neighborhood Watch for Sun City neighborhood #36. Jim’s greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, Poppi and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Barbara, his children, Cheryl (Robert) Rachford, Jennifer (Chris) Bartel and Jeffrey (Christy) Bartel and by his grandchildren, Bobbie (Lorin) Rachford, Connor Rachford, Lauren and Emily Bartel.

As I said Barb, it was a pleasure working with Jim at Union Special. Always had a cheerful smile. And a friendly greeting for everyone and always willing to help. He will fit right in ,in heaven.

So sad to hear of Jim's passing. The world has lost a wonderful man who will be remembered as being a loving, kind man who was always willing to help anyone and everyone. I only knew Jim as my mother's neighbor, but will always remember him as being so kind and caring to my mother. I know he was loved by and will be missed by many people. My heartfelt condolences go out to you, Barb, and the rest of your family. May he rest in peace now and forever. He definitely will fit right in heaven watching over all of his loved ones.
