Obituary

Penelope “Penny” Ann Liptak, 77, of Huntley, formerly of Arlington Heights, died peacefully on December 24, 2020.
Penny was born on December 29, 1942 in Toledo, Ohio to parents Kenneth and Marjorie (nee Akerlund) McLeod. While working at a laundromat, she caught the eye of Edward Liptak, who would bring in his Navy uniform to be cleaned. He asked her out to coffee and despite not liking coffee, Penny agreed. They married on July 20, 1963 and spent the next 57 years together raising their four children. Penny was the ultimate caregiver who spent all her time caring for those around her. She loved her family and there was nothing she would not do for them. She was a loyal friend who will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Penny is survived by her beloved husband, Edward Liptak, her children, Jennifer Leigh, Christina (George) Riess, Andrew (Laura) Liptak, and David (Anita) Liptak, her grandchildren, Alexandra, Katherine, Kaitlyn, Brandon, Nathan, Kaitlyn, Andrew, Emma, Kimberly, and Jordan, and her brother, Randall McLeod.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Penny’s name to the Daughters of the American Revolution https://www.dar.org/giving/daughters-tribute-0 and the American Cancer Society https://www.cancer.org/

I will never forget all of the times we visit each other in Illinois, and California. All the text messages, and the times that you babysat when my kids were little, in Glenview Illinois. We will miss you dearly and know that you’re in the safe good place, and will be together some day. Love Altes family

Penny, I know you and my wife Pat, are going to every garage sale you can find in heaven! And you're probably dragging your mother along for the company! It won't be to long we'll all be together again so set up the card tables so we can play some pinochle when we arrive! God bless you Penny. You were a great mother and a great person! Ed and I knew how to pick 'em. Ed and family, my sincere condolences. I know you will miss her.

Cathie and I will miss you as a kind and generous neighbor. We just knew you 6 years but from the beginning, we realized the good person you showed to us. Your laugh and love of the sun and your children was evident. Peace be with you and so very sorry for Ed and the family.

Penny will be missed by so many! Bill and I wish we could be there on Friday with the family to say our goodbyes but Covid messed up that plan. We definitely will be watching via Facebook. Thanks for offering that option. Sending virtual hugs to all who loved her as much as we do!

Words can’t describe how devastating this news is. Penny was the most loyal, nonjudgmental, giving, fun, adventurous, loving and gave the best unconventional love I have ever seen. My family could never repay Penny for all that she did for our father when he was dyeing and our mother’s struggles all while Penny was fighting her own battle. She did this and never wavered right up until Penny sadly lost her battle. I find comfort every time I look at pictures of Penny,Ed and the gang on trips and at parties! I look at Penny and I see a strong inspirational beautiful women inside and out who everyone should aspire to be! Penny loved her husband Ed and family fiercely and somehow spread herself to do the same for her friends and her friends families! I am missing and will always miss texting, talking and sharing laughs with Penny! Penny is worthy of saint hood in my books! I look at Penny’s picture and can’t help but hear her calming, loving, fun matter of fact voice and that laugh! Oh how I love/loved that laugh! I am missing you deeply Penny! I just pray you know that! Love you Penny! Love, Patti

My condolences to the entire Liptak family and the many whose lives were touched by Penny. Hanging out with her son Dave and our friends in their Arlington Heights home, Mrs. Liptak was always welcoming and gracious. She will be missed.

1989- I moved in Illinois from Tennessee and started working on the Med/surg unit at nwch in Arlington Heights, I’ll. Penny was the unit secretary. Our unit was closed and we moved to the 2nd floor, Women’s unit. Penny and I continued to together. I left the unit and took a position on the Same Day Surgery now called the SPA. I determined that the unit needed a secretary, an efficient secretary. I knew exactly who I wanted and proceeded with success for Penny to apply for the position. The rest us history. Even with retirement, moving to Austin, Tx, we stayed close as friends. So many memories. Penny is one of a kind. Her kindness and friendship is unparallel and unconditional. I will miss you, my dearest friend And to your husband and family, thank you so much for sharing this extraordinary and wonderful woman in my life
