Jesselyn Morrison

Obituary

Jesselyn Jo Morrison (Flynn), age 73, passed at her home in Algonquin, Illinois on Resurrection Sunday, April 3, 2021 due to an accident. Jesselyn was born on August 24, 1947 in Oklahoma City General Hospital of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Jesselyn was born to Wilmot Paul Flynn of Oklahoma City and Mary Lou Flynn (Melott) of Drumright, Oklahoma. Through her mother’s maiden name of Melott, she was an enrolled member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation in Shawnee, Oklahoma. By prehistory, the Potawatomi migrated through the Fox River Valley around Algonquin, Illinois.

As a child, Jesselyn enjoyed drawing trees and writing poetry. She grew up in Oklahoma City as the older sister of Laura Lisa Tinsley. She graduated, at age 16, from Putnam City High School in Oklahoma City as a member of the Class of 1964 and National Honor Society. On a full four-year scholarship, she earned a Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, from Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Oklahoma, in 1968. Majoring in English, with a minor in education-psychology, she also studied Hebrew history and literature. She was active in the glee club where she sang to her heart’s delight. She married Frank Ausmus in 1968 and divorced in Denver, Colorado, in 1971. In 1971, she married Mitchel Quinten Morrison of Ardmore, Oklahoma, in Texas. As a credentialed teacher of English, she held teacher certificates issued by the State of Oklahoma and Colorado. Her former employers consist of the following: Kelly Temporary Services (1971-73), the Oklahoma State Board of Regents for Higher Education (1974-75), Moore Public Schools (1976-77), Oklahoma City-based attorneys Crowe & Dunlevy (1977-78), First Southern Baptist Church of Del City (1978-81), and Sooner Temporary Service (1982-83). In 1983-84, she completed two semesters of graduate coursework in English at the University of Oklahoma with a GPA of 4.0, before withdrawing in the summer of 1984 while studying divided selves. This was before the building accessibility requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act. She and Mitchel then moved to Virginia Beach where Mitchel worked for the Christian Broadcasting Network.

In 1986, Jesselyn gave birth to a son, Mitchel David Morrison in Virginia Beach, a miracle. Only God could make a birth to a father with a reverse vasectomy and mother that survived ovarian cancer and endometriosis possible. Her husband who passed in 1995 in Denver, Colorado precedes Jesselyn in death. She is survived by: her son, Mitchel David (34), daughter-in-love Tina Maria (34), and granddaughter Maria Joy (22 months) of Newbury Park, California. Her sister Laura Tinsley of Fairhope, Alabama, also survives her. She is survived by a multitude of spiritual family through Light of Christ Lutheran Church of Algonquin, Illinois. A polymathic bibliophile, Jesselyn is honored as a kaleidoscope of forthright self-expression, wielder of authentic wit, and person of profound spiritual perception for the all-embracing Love and Light of Christ.

We are deeply saddened for you, and for ourselves, at this passing of dear cousin, Jesselyn. She was an important person to me as i grew up, and remained a dear, loved cousin. Jesselyn was remarkable; such a resource on family history, always patient and generous of spirit to a much younger little girl hanging around, her voice always comforted me. We are so grateful for her love of Christ and our future reunion in God’s promised Kingdom. Please know we will be keeping you in prayer for comfort in her absence from this life.

Lyn's spirit was as beautiful as she was! I'm so happy she is with her Beloved Savior. There's no place she'd rather be.
