Obituary

Bernadette “Berni” Nora Stern, 86, died peacefully on October 15, 2021, in Elgin.
Berni was born in Chicago on November 28, 1934, to parents Bernard and Rose (nee O’Neill) Lynch. After meeting Marvin Stern at work and quickly falling in love, they married on December 15, 1968. They spent their honeymoon in Florida before settling in Melrose Park. They later moved to Palatine, and then Del Webb in Arizona, before moving to Del Webb in Huntley. Berni loved garage sales and finding a good bargain. Marvin and Berni would go to the horse races together as often as they could, and Marvin took her out for dinner every Saturday night. She especially loved ice cream and Marvin would often take Berni out for a Frosty at Wendy’s. Berni was a dedicated friend and will be missed by all who knew her.

Berni is survived by her beloved husband of 53 years, Marvin Stern, her siblings, Winifred, Alice (Jim), and Mary, her sister-in-law, Marie, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Jack.

Visitation will be Wednesday, October 20, 2021, from 9 a.m. to time of mass 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 10307 Dundee Road, Huntley.
Inurnment will be Thursday, October 21, 2021, at 2 p.m. at the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery Columbarium, Dean Street, Huntley.

Uncle Marvin -- I am so sorry to hear this news. Auntie Berni will be missed. Her smile, laugh and her love of a tasty soda bread and cup of tea. While we will miss her, she is in a better place. Send love and prayers. XXOO
