Obituary

Dolores A. Tollas, 84, of Lake in the Hills died peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on October 15, 2021.

Dolores was born August 16, 1937, in Chicago to parents Walter and Mary (nee Walsher) Smalec. Dolores was the pillar of strength, love and the heart of her family. She was a devoted mother to her children, grandchildren and great child. Dolores loved to travel with her family and looked forward to their trips especially to Hawaii and Disney World. She created a lifetime of wonderful travel memories and there was always a story to tell. The stories usually generated much laughter for all.
She truly cared about people and always wanted to help them. She was known as the “heart” of District 211 where she helped coordinate insurance claims for the District employees. She always had time to hear your story and her caring heart made it easy to share even the most difficult topics.
She was a loving and caring woman who be greatly missed by all who knew her. No one will ever replace her warmth, her heart or sense of humor and advice.

Dolores is survived by her children, Ken (Sheila) Tollas, and Laurie Tollas, her grandchildren, Amanda (Dan) Carncross, and Kyle Tollas, her great-grandson, Mason, her cousin who she often referred to as her “sister” Norene (Daniel), many, nieces and nephews, her cat Sophie and preceded in death by her cat, Stella.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association or Helping Paws Chicago.

Laurie, Ken and family. Please accept my heartfelt condolences. Mom will truly be missed by all who knew her. She always had time to listen and help out when ever she was needed no matter how busy she was. She loved sharing family stories of all your adventures from family vacations. She loved you all so much. Keep sharing your stories with each other and she will be kept close to your hearts. For through this one woman a little more love and goodness, A little more light and truth came into the world- Then that woman’s life Has had meaning.
