Arthur Brening

Obituary

Arthur “Art” Brening, 92, of Marengo, died peacefully in his home surrounded by his family on October 19, 2021.
Art was born in Bensenville on May 21, 1929, to parents Roy and Helen (nee Knaack) Brening of rural Addison Township. Art was a proud Army veteran who served as mortar man in Company G of the 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Division during the Korean War. He met Marion Riemer at a farmer’s dance and was quickly enamored. Art and Marion married on November 24, 1956, in Bensenville. They settled in Marengo several years later and that is where they raised their two daughters, Linda, and Laurie. Art was a hard-working farmer who took pride in his work. In his leisure time, he loved to fly and cherished his Cessna 172 airplane, playing cards, dominoes, and watching the Cubs. He was very active in his church, the United Church of Christ and served on the church council. He was a very brave man and a devoted and loving husband and father. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Art is survived by his beloved wife, Marion, his daughters, Linda (Martin) O’Connor, and Laurie (Gary) Pfaffinger, his grandchildren, Jennifer Clancy, Katelyn (Cevin) Helfvogt, and Brian (Meghan) O’Connor, his great-grandchildren, Arianna and Vivian Clancy, his siblings, Donald Brening, Betty Butenschoen, Ellen Miller, Marge Timmermann, Carroll Von Bergen, sister-in-law, Carol Brening, Robert Brening, Joan (Gerald) Stoffregen, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Roy Brening, Jr.

Special thanks to Vitas Hospice, Home Instead Senior Care, and caregivers: Lito, Khashaa and Deb.

Both of us have enjoyed our bother in law Art. He was a very generous man with a deep concern for family, relatives and friends always seeking peace among all. We will always remember him for the concern he Hass for his land and tending it carefully and lovingly. He was born and died a dedicated farmer of God’s creation. May Rest In Peace.

I was lucky to see him before he passed to God's receiving hands. I did not know much about him, but I do remember his wonderful farm wherein when I was a little girl I saw so many tomatoes growing on his land and that memory is what I always carried with me. I know he was a loving father to his children and grandchildren. When I last saw Uncle Art, he had happiness when he spoke and his memory was very vivid. May God bless him and his family at this time. And to Aunt Marion and his family -- may the memories of his life continue throughout the years to come.
