Steve Szabo

Obituary

Steve Szabo, 69, of Hampshire, died December 6, 2021.
Steve was born July 15, 1952, in Linz, Austria. He was the son of Steve and Elisabeth Szabo. On September 20, 1986, he married Patricia “Patty” Tokarz. They shared over 35 wonderful and happy years of marriage together. For 50 years, Steve was a well respected member of Bricklayers Local 21. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being outdoors at anytime. He was a Chicago Sports fan, especially the Bears, White Sox, and Blackhawks. Steve was a kind, caring, and loving guy with a great sense of humor. He was an amazing husband and best friend to Patty and loved being a dad to Stephen and Daniel. His greatest joy came to be his grandchildren who affectionately called him Papa. Two and half years ago Steve started living his bonus years, after a cardiac event. He was so conscious and grateful for the extra time with his wife and family. He was the most loving, husband, father, Papa, and friend and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Patty, his sons, Stephen (Angela) Szabo, Daniel (Jessica) Szabo, by his grandchildren, Adam, Ella, Evan, Emmett and by his mother, Elisabeth Szabo, his brothers, Paul (Kathy) Szabo, Ernie (Hege) Szabo and by so many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father Steve Szabo.

So sorry to hear this sad news. We went on so many trips together. Key West, Isle Royale, Lac Vieux Desert, Boundary Waters, James Bay, Ottawa Forest and Shawnee Forest just to name a few. Wouldn't/couldn't have done it without you.

Steve was a great guy going all the way back to grammar school. He was my masonry guy on my house. Loved his laugh.

Steve and Patty were our next door neighbors on Keeler in Chicago, but they felt more like family. It was always fun to be around them. Steve was always cracking jokes and had a very distinctive, infectious laugh. I know he will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

I worked with Steve at Hampshire Park District. Steve had excellent taste in music. From his Jimmy Hendrix ring tone to the many YouTube songs we shared, we both agreed on our love for Pink Floyd the most. He had a wicked sense of humor along with a larger than life laugh that will never be forgotten. For long you live and high you fly. Shine on you crazy Diamond...

I first met Steve. at Keeler Ave. he took me under his wing and invited me to go hunting with him, as we all know that was an honor,we were friends for many years and then we drifted apart, I only wish we didn’t, Steve was a good friend he would help you out when he could, if you were a friend of Steve you know he could be difficult at times but he was always there for you. Steve Rest In Peace God Bless friend forever
