Kathy Dace

Obituary

Kathryn Mae Habes Dace was born in Evanston, IL on June 15, 1945 to Bill and Marcella (nee Johnson) Habes. Always a strong believer in faith, Kathryn attended Willow Creek Community Church (WCCC) for a total of 45 years; 10 of these years, she worshiped at their Huntley Church location. In fact, Kathy met the love of her life, Ken (Bud) Dace at a social function sponsored by WCCC’s South Barrington campus. The couple were married on May 17, 1986 and were blessed with 35 years of marital happiness.
Kathryn Mae graduated from the University of Illinois in Champaign. Her college degree launched a 30 year career of working at one of the local hospitals. After retirement, this selfless individual and loving soul, who always put her family and friends before herself, donated countless years to charity. Kathy volunteered at the following local organizations: Huntley Lions, Grafton Food Pantry, Sweet Repeats, Pioneer Center and Sparrow’s Nest.
Kathy is survived by her loving husband, Ken Dace, son, Adam Dace, and grandchild David Dace – all of whom shared fabulous memories with her! She is survived by her sister, Joanie (Nick) Koplos, sister-in-law, Pat (late husband, Bob) Barilow, brother-in-law, Grant (Carol) Dace, special niece, Kristi Buckman, special nephews, Jim (Judy) and Bill (Jenny) Koplos, and many nieces and nephews. In addition, Mrs. Dace is also survived by her son-in-law, John Poulin, step-sons, Michael and Daniel Dace, and her step-grandchildren, Kelly, Casidy, Ryan, Danielle, Desiree, and Michael, along with 5 step-great grandchildren, Blaine, Brealy, Brody, Boston, and Bayla. This animal lover will be missed greatly by her kitty, Magic! Kathy was preceded in death by her beloved parents, her wonderful step-grandson, Dillon, and her most loved step-daughter, Sue, who (in life) became a daughter to her.
Kathy Dace passed away in Huntley on Monday, December 6th, with her devoted family by her side. Visitation will be from 9-11am Thursday, December 16th and a Celebration of Life service will begin at 11:00 am at the DeFiore Funeral Home, 10763 Dundee Road, Huntley. Ken and family, My thoughts and prayers are with you. Kathy was such a dear friend to me, kind, caring and loving person. She was aways so positive and saw the only the good in everyone. She would bring you up if you were down. Kathy was my angel. She will be missed.

My younger sister, Kathy Dace, was my inspiration in life. Like our mother, Kathy was truly unselfish in giving to others always before she ever gave to herself. When she was stricken with cancer, she never let her husband, son, and grandchild worry about her. Instead Kathy strove to comfort her family in her own hours of need. I will miss so much our recent years of closeness and exchanging helpful advice with one another. Kathy Dace, you were the best sister a sis could have in a lifetime! I know that you have joined our mom and dad in heaven. I will pray to you nightly to protect Ken, Adam, and David. With Love always, Your older sis, Joanie
