Floyd Joseph Schneider, Jr, “Kip”

Obituary

Floyd Joseph Schneider, Jr, ‘Kip’ passed away peacefully on January 25th, 2022 at 78 years of age. He was born in New Haven, Connecticut on July 22, 1943. He attended Catholic schools and graduated from Saint Michaels College in Vermont with a degree in Economics. He joined the Army serving as a 1st Lieutenant Supply officer in Germany and served for 3.5 years. He later worked at the Hartford Insurance Group where he met his wife Julie.
They were married in 1970 and lived in New Hampshire and Florida before relocating to Fort Wayne, Indiana where they lived for the next 40 years. This is where he and Julie raised their children and made so many wonderful lifetime friends and memories. Floyd worked for O’Rourke, Andrews, and Maroney Insurance Agency as Operations Manager until he retired in 1998.
In 2013, Floyd and Julie moved to Huntley, IL to be closer to his daughter and her family. He enjoyed playing Bocce ball and socializing with friends in the Dell Webb community, attending his grandchildren’s various activities, and visiting his son’s family in New York. He also spent hours in his workshop making footstools, doing puzzles, and watching sunsets and wildlife with Julie. Floyd was always a great dancer and later in their marriage, he and Julie took ballroom dance lessons for over 4 years together. He was a member of Saint Mary Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
Floyd was a very kind man and excellent role model in so many aspects of life. He truly cared for others with his exemplary listening skills, encouragement and support. He had a great sense of humor and was always looking for a good laugh! Manners and grammar (strongly influenced by his late mother) were extremely important to him. He loved peanut butter, coffee, and red wine. He loved his wife fiercely and would often tell her and others how lucky he was to have her at his side. He enjoyed the simple life and was always very content.
He is survived by his loving wife Julie of 51 years, children Amy (Rob), Tom (Louisa), and 6 grandchildren – Anna (19), Raegan (18), Henry (12), Jonathan (11), Luke (10), and Fiona (7). I will always be so grateful to Floyd. He taught me everything I know about baseball when I helped keep the score book when he was busy announcing the games at Times Corner little league when Tommy played and teaching me what to put down in the book….and most important…what it ALL meant. I never watch a game that I don’t think of him teaching me what I know today about baseball. Thank you Floyd!!!

We were good friends for over 50 years though we only met a handful of times. I shall miss wonderful, kind and gentile man with a great sense of humour and a good-natured, infectious laugh for many years with a pibe in his hand. (Before we knew better). He never spoke ill of anybody and allways looking lovingly at Julie. and being very proud of the 2 children and grandchildren. Floyd, you shall be greatly missed. My love to Julie and Amy, Tom and families. - Ulla
