Obituary

Fred Olson of Huntley, Illinois passed away peacefully on February 4, 2022 at Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin, Illinois following ongoing medical problems. He was 80 years old and lived a full and vibrant life.

Fredric John Olson was born April 14, 1941, son of Nels and Ina Olson. He was the second of three children and grew up in Chicago, Illinois. Fred attended O.A. Thorpe, Lane Tech High School, and Triton College.

In 1963, Fred married his high school sweetheart, Rosemary Wermich. Together they raised three children in Franklin Park, Illinois: David Olson, Linda Pienschke and Daniel Olson. Fred was the very proud Papa of Corey Olson, Joseph Tanke, Daniel Olson, Jr., Cailyn Pienschke and Michael Pienschke.

Fred was so proud that he served thirty-four years with Franklin Park Fire Department. He started as a paid-on-call firefighter, was promoted through the ranks, and rose to the position of Fire Chief for the last eight years of his career.

In 2000, Fred and Rosemary retired and moved to Del Webb Sun City in Huntley, Illinois, where they made many new friends.

From 2001-2020, Fred served as Trustee, Huntley Fire Protection District, and from 2020-present served as Commissioner, Huntley Fire Protection District. Fred felt extremely privileged to be involved with what he said was the best Fire District in the State of Illinois.
