Obituary

Neal S. Doden, 84, of Huntley, formerly of Addison, died peacefully in his home on February 17, 2022.
Neal was born in Freeport on March 21, 1937, to parents George and Eva (nee Schreiner) Doden. After being introduced by friends, Neal married Jocelyn Morse on December 21, 1974. Neal was incredibly active and was a devoted sportsman. He played basketball at Chadwick High School, went biking as often as he could, and spent many spring breaks skiing in Colorado. He was a devoted grade school principal and was very caring of others. Neal was a gentle giant, and his grandkids were the pride of his life. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.
Neal is survived by his beloved wife, Jocelyn Doden, their children, Jeff (Susan) Doden, Brent (Mary) Doden, Scott Doden, Rebecca (Bill) Rehmann, Robert Shutan, and Colleen (Derek) Galvicius, his grandchildren, Emma, Sierra, Heidi, Greta, Jack, Connor, Jessica, Samantha, Zachary, and Lorelei, and his cousins, Gary Handel and Darrell (Cecelia) Clevidence.

Visitation for Neal will be Wednesday, February 23, 2022, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at DeFiore Funeral Home, 10763 Dundee Road, Huntley.
Funeral will be Thursday, February 24, 2022, at 10 a.m. at Shepherd of the Prairie Lutheran Church, 10805 Main Street, Huntley.
Burial to follow at Chadwick Cemetery, 26900 IL 40, Chadwick.

So sorry to hear of Neal’s passing. He took a chance on hiring a 45 year old with no experience and for that I am forever grateful. As a principal, he was supportive of his staff and their professional growth. York Center benefitted. Will always remember the elaborate birthday pranks his staff played on him.
