Jeffery A. Sciackitano

Obituary

Jeffery A. Sciackitano, 59, of Crystal Lake, died peacefully, April 5, 2022, at his home with his family by his side. Jeff was born April 4, 1963, in Chicago, Illinois the son of John and Linda (Nuti) Sciackitano. He served as a Medic in the Army National Guard. He worked as an IT Director for the Chicago Tribune Broadcasting. On August 15, 2009, he married Denise L. Hoferle.
Jeff was a family man in every sense and highly regarded in career and community. He was a true bon vivant, as he loved good food, good wine, good music, sun soaked vacations — he lived to share these experiences with those he loved. He had a strong passion for music, and known to those he loved as a Dave Matthews Band super-fan. He was a genuinely kind and generous soul whose magnetism and lust for life transformed everyday events into a celebration. Simply put, he made everything fun! Halloween was his favorite and he expressed his passion for the holiday by transforming his front yard with dazzling displays of hand-made ghosts and ghouls and spookies - a passion he passed onto his son, Gavin. Fittingly, his daughter, Courtney, was born on Halloween and Jeff delighted in this coincidence. Perhaps the most salient quality about Jeff is his extraordinarily strong moral compass. He passed on his virtue to his children with the expectation they always “Do the right thing” and are kind to everyone. Although his life was too short, he left behind a legacy of love for his family, and he will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Denise, his children, Nicole Sciackitano, Roxanne Sciackitano (Agustin Herebia), Courtney (Mike) Bullis, Caitlin Sciackitano (Max Noto) and by Gavin Sciackitano, by his granddaughter, Hazel Bullis, his parents, John and Carmen Sciackitano, Linda Colgan, his siblings, John V.(Stephanie) Sciackitano and Laura (Dan) Cryer and by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Terry (the late Richard/Dick Hoferle).
Visitation will be on Saturday, April 9, 2022, from 1-5pm with a service at 3pm all at DeFiore Funeral Home-10763 Dundee Road, Huntley. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family to be used to establish a college fund for Gavin.

Denise, I am so sorry about Jeff's death. It has been a long hard fight and as much as you will miss him, it will be a relief for the family. He was a good man and God will reward him for his goodness. I had hoped to be able to come today to the service, but I got called for confessions. Also give my love to your mom who suffers again from this terrible decease. God Bless and I have Jeff and your family in my prayers.

NBC Nightly News story was a fantastic preview to Jeff into your family! From what I saw and from what I read on the obituary, I'm sure I would have loved and respected him. If our paths ever cross and if Gavin ever gets to Fort Lauderdale, it would be my honor to meet him or to meet your family! I'm on Facebook and my email is bobkramm1@gmail.com. Halloween will certainly be a mixed emotional challenge for all of you, but be proud of how you have honored Jeff and his vision for the community and for your family! Bob
