Randy Nichols

Obituary

Randy W. Nichols, 60, of Lake in the Hills, died peacefully on April 13, 2022, with his family by his side.

Randy was born on August 6, 1961, to parents Leonard and Patricia (nee Osinski) Nichols. After growing up in the same Chicago neighborhood together, Randy married Mary Bohonowicz in August of 1986. Randy and Mary shared many happy memories, including their daily coffee dates, watching sports events, and visiting their children and grandchildren. Randy was a dedicated and hardworking husband and a devoted father. He loved to help his friends and family, especially those in need.

Randy played hockey growing up, loved going to old car shows and playing pool. He was a loyal fan of several Chicago sports teams including the Cubs, Bulls, Bears and Blackhawks. He had quite an appetite and an incurable sweet tooth. He loved baking cakes for family gatherings. He stood 6-foot-7 but was a gentle giant who was thoughtful, kind, faithful and made friends everywhere he went. Randy also served as a mentor to those who battled alcoholism, as he took pride in being sober for 36 years.

Randy is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Nichols, his children, Lisa (James) Penz, and Steven (Tara) Nichols, his grandchildren, Jackson and Callie, his siblings, Jeff (Rose) Nichols, Mike (Karen) Nichols, Dawn Nichols, Chris (Kendra) Nichols, Tracy (Joe) Gladson, many nieces and nephews and his dog, Cubbie.

Randy was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Patricia Nichols, and his sister, Cindy Nichols.

A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2022, from 4 pm to time of service 7 pm all at DeFiore Funeral Home at 10763 Dundee Road, Huntley, IL 60142.

We are so sorry for the loss of the gentle giant! Randy was truly one of the kindest men we have ever known. He had a smile and hug that just sent comfort through your bones. He was always caring and concerned for all those who's life he touched. Kind and compassionate are the words that summed up who this giant of a man truly was. He will be truly missed but not forgetten.
