Richard Brock

Obituary

Richard Allen Brock, 75, of Huntley, passed away on May 11, 2022, at his home.
Richard was born in Chicago on August 30, 1946, to parents Ralston and Vada (nee Woolverton) Brock.

Richard was devoted to the love of his life, Therese, and was a cherished member of her family. Richard was unwaveringly kind and compassionate, going out of his way to help others. He was generous and intentional in his relationships, especially with his nieces and nephews. Richard loved nature, traveling, and being outdoors in the warm sun. He enjoyed gardening, listening to music, drag racing, riding his bike, softball and taking long walks through the neighborhood, where he was fondly known as “The Walker.” He had a gift for finding and restoring antiques and was a talented craftsman. He spent countless hours playing Cribbage with his family and loved watching Seinfeld and the Chicago Bulls. Richard had a tremendous sense of humor and was quick to lend a hand or offer an encouraging word. Richard will be deeply missed by all who knew him as he truly was a treasure.

Richard is survived by his beloved partner of 38 years, Therese Manweiler, his nieces and nephews, Nicole (Matthew) Huonder, Paul “PJ” (Shannon) Doyle, and Lyndsay (Adam) Ladzinski, and Therese’s family.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Philip Brock.

A Graveside service will be held on May 11, 2023, at 12 noon, at Windridge Memorial Park in Cary.

When I was a little girl, we used to gather for Christmas and all of the adults would be visiting and doing their adult things but I remember Richard making time to talk and play with me. I had gotten a jewelry box that year with one of those little ballerinas inside and we decided she must be the Sugar Plum Fairy. Another year he brought a puppet (yes, a puppet!) that looked just like him and I remember the grown ups laughing like I’d never heard them laugh before when they set it up in his beloved white car to look like it was driving. We’ve all gotten older and we haven’t had Christmases quite like that in a long time but I will always remember those holidays together as some of my most cherished memories. Goodnight Richard ❤️ And Terry, I’m so glad you were in his life. Thank you for making him so happy.

Richard was a friend of the family since childhood. It was always wonderful to see him at the family functions as I married into the family. The first thing that comes to mind whenever Richard's name is mentioned is his laugh. It was the best. Holding back tears as I smile at the thought of his infectious laugh. Richard our friend you are in our prayers

Teri, Sending our prayers for your healing, for Richard’s family, your family and all your friends as well. John and I always remember his smile and his laugh. Richard, just like us, loved to laugh and his laugh was infectious. When we spoke about Phillip and what Phillip went through before his death, was one of only a few times we remember sadness instead of happiness in his voice. Like we mentioned on the phone, there are many stories that we’d like to share with you, like the time he saved John’s life. With sincere sympathy, John and Barb Dorgan

As a longtime friend, I have had the privilege to enjoy many of the things those in is life have, such as his infectious laughter, engaging smile, positive attitude, and his gift of making everyone in his life feel very special and loved. For the people he loved, he would do anything for them, with a passion and deep commitment to that relationship, freely and with no expectations. Teri, I am so happy you were the love of his life and you showed each other what love is and protected each other. He is now another angel watching over you and can teach the angels how to play wiffle ball with the word "competitive" removed as they all will be laughing with him and having such fun. My prayers are with you and your family as you navigate this deep grief, and one day your heart will smile again, as you are reminded of all the many, many, loving and fond memories you shared together.
