Lorraine Pfeiffer

Obituary

Lorraine "Lorrie" Pfeiffer, 90, died peacefully in her home on May 8, 2022, with her family by her side.

Lorrie Pfeiffer was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 5th, 1931, to loving parents Joseph and Anna Durta. She and her younger siblings, Eleanor and Joseph, were taught about Jesus from their parents, through their Catholic upbringing and by their example. Lorrie made the decision to have a personal relationship with Jesus early in her life.

Lorrie attended Catholic school through the 8th grade and went on to Jones Commercial High School where she received the Honor Award for Superior Scholarship. Because of her upbringing she maintained a quiet conservatism but when she and her sister, Eleanor, were together harmless mischief was plenty. After high school, Lorrie worked for Standard Oil as a secretary in downtown Chicago. She blossomed into a beautiful young woman with a certain swagger about her! One evening she was invited to go to a club with her girlfriends where she met the love of her life, Harold “Bud” Pfeiffer, and they were married February 16th, 1957.

Bud and Lorrie began a family almost immediately. Lorrie adapted so quickly and easily into her new role as wife and mother. She had four children within five years: Michael, Daniel, Timothy and Judith. Lorrie was so comfortable in this new role as a nurturer and caregiver. She served others selflessly and with such love. Lorrie’s faith was steadfast but quiet and she instilled this in each of her children! The kids continued to grow and learn and gradually, a fifth child, Nancy, was born. Family and faith were everything to Bud and Lorrie and they provided continually and unconditionally for each child!

As the house in Chicago became too small for the ever-growing family, they moved to Arlington Heights, IL and lived there for 20 years before retiring at Lake Carroll, IL. The family affectionately refers to this as God’s Country because so many wonderful memories were made there with light and love as the foundation!

Lorrie’s kids affectionately remember their mother as someone who was always there for them. She will forever be remembered as a compassionate, sensitive & love-filled individual whose faith meant everything to her. Her legacy will continue to live on in her children, grandchildren & great grandchildren.

Heaven received Bud in 2019 and Eleanor in 1992. Children are Mike (Annette), Dan (Tanya), Tim (John), Judy Grens and Nancy Kolodziej (Ron). Grandchildren are Sean Pfeiffer (Amanda), Ryan Pfeiffer (Elaine), Chris Pfeiffer (Stephanie), Lauren Keating (Jimmy), Emma Pfeiffer, Brandon Grens, Eric Grens, Matthew Grens, Jackson Kolodziej and Kyle Kolodziej. Great grandchildren are Paige, Tate & Wells Pfeiffer.

A Homecoming Celebration and Catholic Mass for Lorrie Pfeiffer will be held at
St. Wendelin Catholic Church in Shannon, IL on Saturday, June 25th at 10:30 am.
A reception in Lorrie’s honor will take place immediately afterwards.
There will also be a casual gathering in Lorrie’s honor held at the Kolodziej house in Elgin at 5pm for family & friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Wendelin Catholic Church.

I am so grateful and honored for these past 2 years having you live with us. Your continued faith and incredible strength was with you until the very end. The beautiful connections you made with Ron, Jackson and Kyle will always be remembered. Mom, you have been my rock of support my whole life and have been there for my family. I have learned so much from you. Your compassion, great listening skills, and boundless love for your family is something I will always aspire to. You have ALWAYS put family first! Your children, their spouses/partners, grandchildren and great grandchildren were your whole world. I treasure all the memories we have had, like this past February, you taught me to make your soup. I will greatly miss "the look" you gave me when I am doing something wrong or your elbows on the island preparing for dinner. Go enjoy a round of golf with Dad and give your sister and mom and dad a big hug from me. I love you with all my heart. Angel Hugs xo
