Donna Corbett

Obituary

Donna Lee Corbett, 75, died Monday June 20th, 2022, at White Oaks of Huntley, Illinois. She was a loving Wife, Mother, and Grandmother.

Donna was born on October 11th, 1945, in Lyons, Illinois, the daughter of Vernon and Dorothy (nee Turner) Zielke. Donna was at one time a Bell Telephone operator and a retail specialist in the children’s department at Marshall Field’s where she met many life-long friends. She finished her working years as a customer service representative at Williams-Manny for almost two decades, and again enjoyed a large group of co-working friends. Prior to her brief move to Huntley, Donna had been a resident of Rockford, Illinois for over 40 years. Donna loved her pool, her flowers, and her backyard squirrels as she fed them peanuts in the winter. She enjoyed dancing, and was always more concerned about doing something for others than having something done for her.

Donna is survived by her sons Brian (Erin) Hayes of Dundee, Illinois, and David (Sarah) Hayes of Louisville, Kentucky. Stepdaughter Jennifer (Chuck) Zaluckyj of Belvidere, Illinois; step-grandchildren Olivia and Hayden whom she loved so very much; stepbrother in-law Joe (Lynne) Corbett of Phoenix, Arizona; cousins that were like sisters and great friends in Joy Berberek and Linda Fields of San Antonio, Texas, sister Janet (Rick) Stafford of Lyons, Illinois, and very special friend Nancy (Charles) Geringer of Rockford, Illinois.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to White Oaks of Huntley for their professional and kind care during this difficult time.
Memorials to Poor Clares Corpus Christi Monastery, 2111 South Main Street, Rockford, IL 61102-3591.

It’s somewhat odd to feel we knew Donna by knowing her son Brian. But this is proof that good people follow in the footsteps of their parents. We never had the honor of meeting your mother in person. We only were able to know her through your loving stories about her. However, we know you, Brian, and we know your character. Your mother must have been a delightful person because she made you a loving, caring and thoughtful person.

I’m deeply saddened by the passing of my friend and cousin, Donna. We had such a wonderful childhood living two doors down from each other. I know she is now with her love, Jim, in Heaven! I’ll miss our talks. Prayers for her sweet family during this very difficult time.

Dear Brian, I know you've had to navigate unfamiliar paths as your Mom journeyed through her final years. It is good that you were there to also boldly face this challenge. Though unwanted, this circumstance has brought many including me who count it a privilege to have shared life with you. We grieve with you. I pray that God will bring you and members of your family comfort as you recall fond memories of your Mom.

Donna Lee was not only my wonderful cousin, but a best friend growing up down the street to my sister and me. We had so much fun together. Later on as we grew up we still stayed in touch and had some fantastic phone calls and visits. I will miss her. Praying for comfort for her boys and her extended family members. Thankful she is dancing again in heaven with her beloved Jim.

Erin and Skippy, We know how difficult it has been watching your mom lose her battle to such a horrible disease. You were both so courageous in this journey supporting and loving your mom through it all. She can now rest. You both can enjoy the memories of her beautiful life! We love you both and have been thinking and praying for you daily!
