Brian and I have known the Metz family since Shelby was in knee breeches and playing in the mud at historical events. It was just yesterday ( the 11th) that I had asked if he had heard anymore on Annie's health. It was a shock and great sadness that we saw the report today from Shelby. Annie was a true fighter because she had so much to live for, her Son, her Mom Verna and the grandkids. Our hearts are breaking but I truly believe we will see each other again with all our other "history" friends on the other side. Shelby and Verna please know that we are with you both and our hearts are broken and a little piece is missing but we will always have such beautiful memories of your family.

Annie was a dear reenacting friend of mine for so much of my 47 years with the living history community here in the Midwest. She always had a wonderful smile and a hug for me that I returned graciously wherever we met, either at Alliance encampments or at our winter history conventions. She really cared for and shared with others... making everyone's life a little brighter for having known and loved her. I will greatly miss Annie. God bless her and her wonderful family she is leaving behind... for now.

We will miss you, Annie. Years of sharing events and the often ensuing shenanigans are fond memories we cherish. Until we meet again, Annie, we will always hold you dear.

I am so very sorry that I did not hear of Annie's passing last year. Our friendship went back many years, to our civil war days..I think she was 20 when we met...she was the most beautiful southern belle in our re-enacting world. She had a generous heart and was a good friend all these years. Until we meet again, Annie.
