Robert W. Poppenga, 78 of Huntley died peacefully, May 13, 2013 at Sherman Hospital.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, 10:30am at St. Mary Catholic Church-10307 Dundee Road Huntley. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00pm at DeFiore Jorgensen Funeral Home-10763 Dundee Road, Huntley. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to American Cancer Society or American Heart Association.
Robert was born August 3, 1934 the son of Robert and Anna (Vail) Poppenga. On November 16, 1957 he married Mary Jane Keller.
He worked for Chicago Title and Trust and then worked for Prudential Co. for 31 years and managed an insurance company for his friend for 10 years. He was an avid handball player for about 40 years. In 2001 he and Mary Jane moved to Sun City where he was very active in walking and swimming. He loved to play cards with his many friends.
Robert is survived by his wife Mary Jane, his 6 daughters; Susan (Tony) Carbone, Kathy (Gio) Milano, Linda (Gerry) Dudziak, Gail (Greg) Till, Margie (Art) Stephens and Mary Palermo. He was the loving grandfather to 13 grandchildren; Joseph(Mollie), Jessica (Justin), Angela (Dennis), Michael (Jessica), Bryan, Johnny(Katie), Kristin (Eric), Kevin (Lisa), Brianna, Mitchell, Emily, Robert and Lee. He is also survived by his 15 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and by his brother, Patrick.

Mary Jane....was both shocked and saddened to hear of Bob's passing!!! Please take joy in the fact that he lived such a miraculous, meaningful life and touched the hearts of all who knew him. We all will miss him, but take such comfort knowing we will see him again one day. You and your family are in our heartfelt prayers as you go through these trying times.
