Craig Kronewitter

Obituary

Craig Lee Kronewitter, of Oakwood Hills, Illinois passed away on October 23, 2022.

Craig was born in South Bend, Indiana on June 6, 1946, the son of Frank Dell Kronewitter and Shirley (Rolen) Kronewitter . After his graduation from Berrien Springs High School in 1964 where he earned multiple varsity letters, Craig attended and graduated from The Ohio State University and continued to be an avid fan of their football team. Craig worked as a manager for various steamship lines including Polish Ocean Lines/Gdynia for many years. Craig enjoyed several hobbies throughout his life including fishing, skiing, canoeing, camping, and photography of lighthouses and winter scenes that he made into Christmas cards. He loved cooking and trying new restaurants and collecting photos of his favorites. More recently he began collecting and framing burgees from various yacht clubs, even though he would be seasick if he went to sea. In the last years of his life, he fell in love with Wellfleet oysters. In recent years he enjoyed teaching his grandsons to fish in the lake he loved so much.

Even though Craig lived in Illinois for all of his adult life, he never gave up his love and respect for his beloved Michigan; he traveled there often. He also loved traveling to Sanibel, Florida and New Orleans. He will be missed by us all. You will see him playing with his beloved dogs: Shamrock, Wrigley, and Copper. Odie continues to search for him each day. When you can, please raise a glass of Scotch and toast this fun loving and caring man.

Craig was preceded in death by his father, Frank Dell Kronewiiter, his mother, Shirley (Rolen) Kronewitter, his brother Frank Dell Kronewitter II, and his son Jason Craig Kronewitter. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Karen Lee Kronewitter, son Jonathan Lee Kronewitter, his two grandchildren, Charlie and Tommy, his two daughters-in-law Karen Kronewitter and Jennifer Kronewitter, and his nephew Frank Dell Kronewitter III and his family, Dawn, Derek, Dani and Barb.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association because his mother and mother-in-law both suffered from that illness, or to World Central Kitchen to help feed the people who are in need.

A celebration of his life will be held at his home some time in the summer of 2023
