Obituary

Maria Elena (Nooning) Havemann, 70 of Huntley, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday morning, May 14, 2013 at Sherman Hospital in Elgin.

She was born July 1, 1942 in Rockford, Illinois the daughter of Matthew and Francis (Hayden) Nooning. In 1960, she graduated from Hayes Catholic High School in Muscatine then enlisted in the United States Air Force where she served as a bookkeeper . On July 25, 1964 she was united in marriage to Jerry D. Havemann. The couple made their home in the Quad Cities area and later Calona, Illinois where she worked at Southeast National Bank and later Henry County Bank. Maria was always active, being a Girl Scout leader for her sister’s troop, President of Beta Sigma Phi and later PTA, held numerous leadership positions in New Comers Clubs, was active in her church with Marriage Encounter, Parish Secretary, founded married couples groups & Stevens Ministry. She loved family and friends and was always ready with a smile, warm hug and a twinkle in her eye. She loved basketball, but especially the Chicago Bulls, she liked shopping, antiquing, photography, travel, flower gardening, scrap booking and reading.

Maria is survived by her husband, Jerry of Huntley, her daughter, Melissa L. Havemann, her granddaughters, Sydney Grace & McKayla Noel Havemann, her sister, Roetta R. Walsh of Shorewood, her daughter-in-law, Kelsey (Benda) Havemann and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Todd, her sister, Trisha Ann (Nooning) Carroll and her brother-in-law, Francis Harold Carroll.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 19th at the DeFiore-Jorgensen Funeral Home, 10763 Dundee Road, Huntley and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church, 10307 Dundee Road, Huntley. Entombment will be in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery in Palatine. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Les Turner ALS Foundation of Chicago.
