Kevin Stockwell

Obituary

Kevin Wayne Stockwell, 64, of Huntley, died peacefully on December 6, 2022, after a 2 1/2 year courageous battle with lung cancer. Kevin never gave up fighting!
Kevin was born in Detroit, Michigan, on July 11, 1958, to parents, Gerald “Jerry” and Joan “Carol” (nee Newsted) Stockwell. In January 1974, the family relocated to Elk Grove Village, Illinois. Kevin graduated from Elk Grove High School in 1976 where he played on the EGHS baseball team for 2 years.

Kevin was a hard worker all his life working for several manufacturing companies and most recently, as an employee for Reinders, Inc. (formerly TPec) since 1998. He was a Service Technician for Irrigation and Fountains. Kevin worked full time even to the very end!

In 1985, their dear friend Susan, introduced Kevin to Patricia McNevin at Ringside Sports Bar, in Elk Grove Village, where Patti worked as a part time bartender/waitress and Kevin was a loyal patron. They became best friends over their 11 years of dating and officially tied the knot on August 31, 1996. Soon after, they found their forever home in Huntley where you would often find Kevin tinkering in his garage working on one project or another. Kevin and Patti recently celebrated their 26th wedding anniversary continuing their deep love and adoration for one another.

Kevin was fondly known as “Mr. Fix-It” to his family and close friends. He was a skilled handyman and was always happy to help anyone in need.
He was very meticulous, always paying close attention to detail as can be seen in their beautiful home and garden. Patti appreciated his organizational skills and cleanliness. Most every Saturday, Kevin would visit his Mom and also work on her To-Do-List. Patti’s parents appreciated whenever Kevin would help them.

Kevin was an avid golfer and enjoyed golfing with his “golf buddies” every Sunday. In his early years, Kevin enjoyed playing softball for ED’s (Enthusiastic Drinker’s) and relaxed while fishing.
Throughout his love for playing sports and cheering on his beloved Michigan Wolverines and his Chicago sports teams, Kevin established lifelong friendships which is evident of how much Kevin
meant to everyone he met!

Kevin shared Patti’s passion with helping and supporting others in need through their many successful ALS and cancer fundraisers.
For the past 17 years, Kevin and Patti have been involved with the ALS Greater Chicago Chapter. In 2016, Kevin was honored and presented with the ALS Greater Chicago Chapter’s “All-Star” award. Kevin was truly touched when they presented him with this prestigious honor.

Kevin was very loving, kind, dependable, humble and he had a heart of gold and a smile to match!! Relationships were very important to Kevin and he valued his family and lifelong friends more than anything.
Kevin will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Preceded in death by his father, the late Jerry Stockwell, who passed away on June 11, 2022, his maternal grandparents Stan and Lois Newsted and his paternal grandparents Wayne and Marjorie Stockwell.
Kevin is survived by his beloved wife, best friend and soulmate Patti Stockwell, his loving and devoted mother, Carol Stockwell, his siblings,
Dean (Brittany) Stockwell, Joan (Mark) Evans, and Susan (Kent) Killam,
his loving in laws, Ed and Carol McNevin and his sister in laws, Mary (Carl) Paulson and Kelly Switzer.
Kevin’s greatest joy was being the coolest uncle to his many nieces and nephews, Alex (Jordan) Stockwell, Kirby (Chris) Wilson, Bradley Evans, Grant Evans, Meredith Evans, Brett Evans, Austin Paulson, Ryan Paulson, Tyler Paulson, Tommy Switzer and Joey Switzer and his great nieces Charlotte, Lauren, Annabelle and Ella and great nephew Joey Jr. and
best feline buddy, Maxine, affectionately known as “Wheezy.”

The word no was not in Kevin's vocabulary when it came to helping people. I worked with him several times and always enjoyed it and learned from it. Kevin was more than a Son in law he was a good friend and one who protected and loved my Daughter. In the years they were married I only heard how much he loved her. I loved Kevin very much and I will miss him but remember him with love and affection. Thanks Kev for taking care of my daughter.

When I was only 11 years old, Kevin was born, making me a very proud Aunt. He became a sweet, kind, wonderful man. Everyone who knew him, will miss him, but always remember,” Memories Make Life Worthwhile.” Rest in Peace, my sweet nephew.

I have known Kevin since the days when Patty and my cousin Pam waitressed at Ringside. Kevin (and Patty) are two of the kindness, caring people I know . My heart breaks for you, Patty. I know and feel your pain. Hold your memories of Kevin close to your heart as that is where he will always be. Know that the only scars in Heaven are on the hands that hold both of them now. Sending you love, hugs, and prayers for comfort.

Kevin was a good friend back in High School and years to follow. He was also a great teammate on our softball team, where he was a top left fielder and hitter. We listened to a lot of music together over the years (he loved Bob Seger), both at his house and mine. I always felt welcome at the Stockwell home. Rest in peace buddy.
