Jeannie Bulmahn

Obituary

Jeannie L. Bulmahn, age 81, completed her earthly journey December 9, 2022, at her home, surrounded by family and comforted by her strong, life-long faith.
Jeannie was born on June 25, 1941, in Boston, Massachusetts, the youngest of four children and the only daughter of Louis and Frieda Karshick. Jeannie left the east coast for the Midwest to attend Valparaiso University (IN) where she earned her B.S. in Elementary Education and met, on a blind date, the love of her life and partner of 61 years, Fredrick “Fritz” Bulmahn. After graduation and a wedding during a Boston blizzard, their shared journey led them to - South Bend, Indiana followed by Alexandria, Virginia and Mount Prospect, Illinois and finally Sun City, Huntley, Illinois in 1999.
Jeannie taught for many years at St. Paul Lutheran School in Mount Prospect, positively impacting the lives of numerous elementary and pre-school children. She was a passionate singer and cherished every moment of her association with the Sun City Prairie Singers and Prairie Voices. Jeannie also loved drawing, painting, gardening, sewing, quilting, reading and traveling.
It is impossible to sum up her life and love in mere sentences, but to many Jeannie will always be remembered affectionately as the “Hug Lady” for her enthusiastic and genuine interest in others and willingness to share a warm embrace and smile, even with strangers. She will be deeply missed, but her generosity, kindness and legacy of love and selfless giving will live on in all who were blessed to know her.
Jeannie is survived by her husband Fredrick, her children, Wayne (Linda) Bulmahn, Erik (Erika) Bulmahn, and Lora (Dave) Bennett, her grandchildren, Allison, Devin, and Nolan, and her brother, Frederick Karshick.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers, Ernest Karshick and Walter Karshick.
Visitation will be Saturday, January 14, 2023, from 10 a.m. to time of funeral service 11 a.m. all at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 18N377 Galligan Road, Dundee Township.

Fred, I am so sad to have read today about your wonderful wife's passing. Every wonderful adjective used to describe her was so true. She was kind, caring, loved Sun City, and devoted to her causes. I am so very sorry.

I was saddened to hear of Jeannie's passing. I knew her from Prairie Singers and Prairie Voices. She was such a lovely, lively, friendly and happy person. I remember her with fondness. She was truly a gift to everyone she met. May she rest in heavenly peace.
