Donald W. Azarela, 68, of Lake in the Hills, passed away at home peacefully, December 20, 2022, with his family by his side.
Donald was born August 10, 1954, the son of Charles and Rose Azarela. On May 21, 1977, he married the love of his life and best friend, Grace L. Ball. For twenty-seven years he served as a Carpentersville Police Officer, and in retirement worked for the Dundee Park District as a supervisor. He loved swimming in his pool, watching sports, especially golf. He was an avid Chicago Sports fan. He was a loving husband, father, papa, and friend to many. He will be missed by all who know him, especially his beloved dog, Rocky.
He is survived by his wife, Grace, his children, Phillip (Michelle) Thompson, Cheryl (Brad) Sturtevant, Kimberly Azarela, Donald Azarela, and his ten grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Jackie, Steve (Maggie), Ken (Kathy), Linda (Michael), and Chuck (Heidi).
Don was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Patty and brother-in-law Bill.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 13, 2023, from 2-5pm at DeFiore Funeral Home-10763 Dundee Road, Huntley. Please wear something red in Don’s honor. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Policeman Memorial Fund.

My Uncle Don, was an amazing human being, I will miss him for all time! My mom recently aka Dons sister told me my uncle would call everyday when I was born to come see me and rock me in my rocking chair! We had a bond in my early teenage years! My heart and soul goes out to My Auntie Grace she is a warm loving woman! My heart goes out to my cousins as well! I pray we all get through these hard times and tell amazing stories about him!
