Lois Fucela

Obituary

Lois Audre Fucela, 88, of Huntley, died peacefully on January 16, 2023, surrounded by family at her home.
Lois (Mom) was born in Chicago on December 10, 1934, to parents Andrew and Tatiana (nee Buschalko) Kuhlmann. Lois married Ronald Fucela on September 10, 1955, and the couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary prior to his death in 2016.
Lois attended Lake View High School in Chicago and Ron attended Lane Tech High School also in Chicago. They met when he finished his time in the service, and shortly after got married. They started their family in Lombard, then moved to Antioch to raise their 5 children.
Lois had many friends during her life. As her children got older, she had more time to herself. She enjoyed working at “The Globe” department store, loved golfing, bowling, and dining out with friends. Ron retired at age 57, and they relocated to Arkansas to start their retirement adventure, where over time they built two homes, made many new friends, and enjoyed boating on their pontoon. After many years they moved back to Illinois to be closer to family. The family enjoyed many years of good times together at their home in Huntley.
Mom always said she was so lucky to have good kids to be there for her, but the truth is, we were so lucky to have her.
Lois is survived by her children, Maureen Guardi, Nancy (Richard) Calkins, Kevin (Elizabeth Fabian) Fucela, and Susan (Geoffrey) Ruther, her 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, her sister-in-laws Joyce Kuhlmann and Shirley Gallagher, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Ronald Fucela, her son Patrick Fucela, and her siblings, Henrietta (Per) Johnson, and Ronald Kuhlmann.
Visitation will be Saturday, February 4, 2023, from 9 a.m. to time of Mass 10 a.m. all at St. Mary Church, 10307 Dundee Road, Huntley.
Inurnment to follow mass at St. Mary Cemetery.

To Lois and Ron’s family, I am so very sorry for the loss of your sweet Mom. She was truly an adorable person in every way! I will always treasure the memories I have of her and be grateful that for years she was my friend. I truly enjoyed working with her at the Globe. God speed Lois and rest in God’s peace my friend.
