Gregory C. Matzke, 75, of Huntley, died surrounded by love, January 25, 2023, at his home.
Greg was born September 7, 1947, in Fargo, North Dakota, the son of Charles and LaRue. He married the love of his life JoAnne Kuemmel in 1974. He served in the Navy on the USS Grand Canyon and was a proud veteran. He spent almost his entire career as a roofer, he was hard working and showed his love through his acts of service. He was a social butterfly and made friends everywhere he went. He enjoyed golf, riding his bike, and watching TV, especially NCIS and Walker Texas Ranger. His greatest joy was his family, especially his four grandchildren, he never missed a game, performance, or competition and would travel anywhere to support his grandchildren. Greg was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend to many who will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, JoAnne, his children, Benjamin (Kristy) Matzke, Jedediah Matzke, Shaina (Samuel) East, and Hannah Matzke; by his grandchildren, Elliana, Calise, Abbey, and Jaxton; by his sister, Gloria Trinkle and brother, Gary Matzke and by his three step- brothers, Charlie Quesnel, Demian Quesnel and Michael Quesnel. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, LaRue and Charles Quesnel, by his father Charles, and by daughter, Gretchen.
He was always smiling and a master of “dad” jokes. He would want everyone to know that he isn’t eternally sleeping, but rather practicing for his Winter Olympic debut of the Luge.
