Obituary

Kenneth V. Okinski, 79, of Huntley, died peacefully, January 25, 2023 at home with his family by his side.
Kenneth was born May 13, 1943, in Chicago, the son of Vincent and Antionette Okinski. He graduated from Lane Tech High School in 1961. After six months active duty, he was in the Naval Reserves as an Aviation Machinist from 1964-1970.
In his early 20’s he was part of Gaffers SAC a group he still belonged to. He married Susan Winkel on February 22, 1986. He worked as a computer engineer for Trans Union Leasing Co., and later started Ken’s Home Improvement in 1992. He had a great passion for all eras of music and was known for listening to all music very loudly. He enjoyed family camping trips, bowling and traveling with Susan, family and friends to Mexico and the Caribbean. He also enjoyed whitewater rafting, scuba diving and playing softball. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Susan, his daughters, Gina (Rob) Taylor, Gerri (Julie) Okinski, his grandchildren, Joey, Dana and Frankie, his brother, Robert (Dawn) Okinski, brother-in-law, Rick Gentry and by nephew, Vincent and niece, Natalie. He is also survived by his brother-in-law David Winkel (Liz),brother-in-law Steve (Jean) Winkel along with their children, Jennifer, Jaclyn, Stephanie, Katy, Mary, Julia, Nicole and Ryan.
He was preceded in death by his, parents and by his sister, Annette Gentry.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2023 from 1-4pm with a service and military rites at 3:30pm at DeFiore Funeral Home-10763 Dundee Road, Huntley.

Ken was older than me. Iwas closer to his younger brother rob who was very close with my older brother Patrick growing up in the (hood)it was not easy to stay out of trouble but ken seemed to rise above it and went on to be a functional asset to society
