Kevin Jermyn

Obituary

Kevin Michael Jermyn, 67, of Sleepy Hollow, passed away peacefully on March 13th, 2023, comforted by his loving wife of 42 years, Mary Therese Jermyn.

Kevin was born in Chicago on February 6th, 1956, to parents John and Catherine (nee Halleran) Jermyn. He grew up in Chicago alongside his siblings, Mary, Tom, John, and Jim.

Kevin was a devoted father to his son Kevin, and he always encouraged his passion for basketball. He traveled with him every weekend around the country for many years to watch him play. Recently, Kevin found immense joy in spending time with his three granddaughters, Nora, Fiona, and Clara. He loved having sleepovers with Nora and Fiona, and they would enjoy doing various activities such as Lego building, drawing, and crafts. He even participated in their fashion shows and let them use makeup on him, which was a testament to his boundless love and affection.

Kevin will always be remembered by his family and friends for his sharp sense of humor, his ability to strike up a conversation with anyone, and his love for his granddaughters. He is a favorite uncle to many. He cherished spending time with his family and always found a way to bring joy and laughter to the room.

Kevin is survived by his wife Mary Therese Jermyn, his son Kevin (Ashley) Jermyn, his grandchildren, Nora, Fiona, and Clara, his siblings, Mary (Joseph) Haracz, Tom (Carol) Jermyn, and Jim Jermyn, his sister-in-law, Karen Johnson-Jermyn, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents John and Catherine, and his brother John.

The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses, and caregivers who helped Kevin during his final days. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Visitation will be Friday, March 17, 2023, from 2 p.m. to time of Memorial Service 5 p.m. all at DeFiore Funeral Home, 10763 Dundee Road, Huntley.

Kevin was not just a great cousin, he was my wonderful godfather. Mary, I wish I could be there right now. I’m so sorry. When I think of you and Kevin I think of the house on Giddings. Lots of big family gatherings. The dogs! Laughter and food. Kevin had a caring and calm presence. Love reading about his granddaughters and I’m sure they’ll carry his memory and love with them always.

I am so sorry. He was the reason I was able to move back home after my Dad died. He got me the interview that landed me the job I needed to get back home. He was my friend. I am unable to attend the service. My thought and prayers are with you all.

Dear slightly-younger Cousin Mary and all of your family, we are so so sorry to hear your news. What a man, what a wonderful, gentle man your Kevin was. I didn't know a better example than him of how to be a loving husband to a loving and sensitive (if sometimes trying) wife. I know your family always wondered, "How will we ever find a husband for our Mary?" I mean, they wondered, honestly, if any man would be able to match her deep reserves of love with his own? If any man would be as ever-kind to her as she would surely be to him? And look who she found! Look at the match she made. Her tall, handsome, funny, kind, wise Kevin. I don't know any man who was kinder than he was, or one who could have been more protective of her than he was. We know that Kevin's passing is a great loss to you. And we send you our love and our deepest condolences. But please know that this is a great loss to our entire Hartmann family as well. He was a wonderful cousin to all of us too, a great and good addition to our family, and we will miss him terribly.

Dear Mary, I was so sad to hear of your husband’s passing. Though I grew up with you and have so many fond memories of the Hartmann family, I knew Kevin only through the wonderful pictures you shared on FB, and it is easy to see that he was a very loving man and grandpa. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers tomorrow and the coming weeks as you navigate through this difficult time. Hugs, Mary.
