Joyce Jean Rekas, 76, of Huntley, formerly of Elk Grove Village and Schaumburg, died peacefully on March 11, 2023, in Elk Grove Village.
Joyce was born in Chicago on May 11, 1946, to parents Phillip and Jean (nee Puleo) Giorango. She married Harry Rekas on August 24, 1964, and the couple had three children.
Joyce is survived by her beloved husband Harry Rekas, her children, Mark Rekas, Phillip (Elizabeth) Rekas, and Christina (Chuck) Boorsma, her grandchildren, Tyler, Kora, Collin, Alexis, and Gavin, her siblings, Frank (Eleanor) Franco, Jessica (John) Capesius, Josephine Cybulski, Joseph (Mary Anne) Giorango, and Carmella Zapata, many nieces and nephews, and her dog, Bella.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 15, 2023, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a time to share stories at 6:30 p.m. all at DeFiore Funeral Home, 10763 Dundee Road, Huntley.
Mass will be Thursday, March 16, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. with a visitation the hour prior, all at St. Nectarios Greek Orthodox Church, 133 S Roselle Road, Palatine.
Entombment to follow at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Palatine

Joyce was a very special lady. She certainty will be missed. I'm very sorry that her time came so soon.
Thinking of you all during this sad time in your lives. So many of us as we get older, see our loved ones cross over to a new life. It is never easy. But I know the Lord is close by and comforts us as we mourn. We loved Joyce for so many reasons and she had a beautiful soul and spirit. I will forever think of her as when she was younger, in good health and sharing that beautiful smile of hers with us. Till we meet again beautiful.
