Obituary

Loreen “Laurie” Banko, 55, returned to our Lord on Sunday, March 19, 2023, peacefully passing with her family by her side.

Laurie was born in Chicago on August 1, 1967, to parents Theodore and Shelby (nee Hoblit) Frenden.

Starting from an early age Laurie’s caring heart led her to meet the love of her life at a school blood drive. Laurie and Daniel extended their love beyond high school and became husband and wife on September 5, 1987.

Moving out of Chicago and into the suburbs together Laurie and Daniel raised a family, Daniel Jr., and Grace, in Lake in the Hills, alongside all their loving dogs throughout the years. Laurie drove a commitment to be involved in her family’s life at every birthday, celebration, and after school event.

Laurie spent her life caring for others and devoted her life to be a friend to all.
Laurie’s heart was filled with love for her family, friends, and every neighbor in this world she met. Her caring devotion and love for others lead her to give the gift of hope as an organ donor.

Laurie is survived by her beloved husband of 35 years, Daniel Banko, her children, Daniel (Rachel) Banko Jr., and Grace Banko, her dog Daisy, her grand-dog Bagel, her sister Susan (Anthony) Kotsiris, and her brother David (Pamela) Frenden.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be Saturday, March 25, 2023, from 1 p.m. to time of Memorial Service 4 p.m. all at DeFiore Funeral Home, 10763 Dundee Road, Huntley.

Laurie’s ashes will be laid to rest in a private ceremony with her immediate family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Laurie’s name can be made to the Helping Paws Animal Shelter in Woodstock https://helpingpaws.net/

Dan, Gracie and Daniel…May you be comforted by the many beautiful memories that will always be tucked in your hearts. Laurie was an incredibly amazing person with a heart of gold. She was always there for everyone as a friend with huge hugs and a BEAUTIFUL smile. She has touched so many lives and her love for dogs was enormous. It is a great memory for me as she always brought yummy treats for the pups when she would visit. She was a cherished friend that I had the pleasure and honor to consider her as such. She was very present in my daughters life when I couldn’t be and for that I am forever grateful. Rest in paradise Laurie, I love you. Dan, may you and the kids be comforted with prayers and beautiful memories during this challenging time.
