Verne “Paul” Cutler II

Obituary

Verne “Paul” Cutler II, 59, of Huntley, passed away peacefully on July 9th, 2023, at JourneyCare Hospice with his beloved wife, Valerie, and daughter, Victoria, at his side. Early that morning the clouds lifted, and he was ushered to heaven.
Verne, known as Paul by his family and coworkers, was the youngest of his family and was born on September 30th, 1963. According to his late mother Norma Jean, he was always a good young boy who excelled as a student and was loving, sensitive and thoughtful of everyone else's feelings, which held true to who Verne became in life.
Paul married the love of his life, Valerie Shafar, on June 9th, 2012, surrounded by friends and family near his hometown. They spent the next eleven years enjoying every moment being each other’s best friend. The two of them were inseparable and embodied true love. They enjoyed a few vacations, but also the simple Sundays at home eating cheese and watching their favorite movies like "Up".
Paul loved his job at Maverick Beverage Company where he was a Key Accounts Manager for 17 years. Oftentimes he would dress up as Santa on Christmas to deliver pizza or treats to his store clients. Paul was passionate in his work and cared for every client he came in contact with.
The phone calls, messages, and visits Paul received during the final weeks of his life spoke to the impact he made on those around him and gave a tremendous source of joy and comfort.
Paul graduated from ISU in Bloomington, Il, and went on to work for a distribution company, liquor store, and shoe store while starting his family. Verne spent much of his time providing for his three children, but always made time for playing with dolls, dancing around the kitchen, and attending softball games with his kids. He was always a true family man and adored each of his children and, in later years, his grandchildren.
Paul was a lot of things to many different people. He was the baby brother, Papa Pal, the go to wine guy, the Dad, a loving husband, but overall someone who always had a smile on his face and could light up any room. He got along with everyone and was known to be sarcastic with a great sense of humor. He always enjoyed football (Go! Pack! Go!), watching movies, video games and playing with his pets.
Paul was preceded in death by his father, Verne Paul I, his mother, Norma Jean (nee Welch) Cutler, stepfather Arthur Welch, and his sister Mary Beth Cutler.
He is survived by his wife, Valerie Cutler of Huntley, II. His children: Anthony (Jessica) Cutler of Somers, Wi., Victoria (Mason) VanBeest of Brooklyn, Wi., and Shelby Cutler of Pleasant Prairie, Wi. His grandchildren: Corbin and Maverick Cutler. His siblings: Gary (Cami) Cutler, Sherry (Mark) Aaron, Susan (Howard)
Smith, David Welch, Phyllis Sidener, and Michael (Debbie) Welch. His Mother-in-Law, Joan Shafar, Sister-in-Law, Cindy Shafar, and Brother-in-Law, Timothy (Jennifer) Shafar. And many friends, nieces, and nephews, including Amy (Mike) Lambrecht, Ethan Krebs, and Brandon Elliot Krebs, who were of great comfort to him during his fight against glioblastoma.

I worked with Paul for many years, at Armanetti Liquors, Mundelein. He was friendly, knowledgeable and seemed genuinely happy to be managing the beer department. My condolences to his family for their premature loss of him.

I went to high school at IVC with Paul. He went by "Verne" at the time so that is always how I knew him. I had heard he passed away and it hit me. Looking at his picture it is apparent that he was a very happy guy and that he had a great family. I am glad he had that joy in his life and send my sincere condolences to his friends and family.
