Obituary

Mary Lou Shumilo, 81, of Huntley, passed peacefully on July 25, 2023.
Mary Lou was born June 17, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Mario and Angelina Savastio. On February 3, 1962 she married the love of her life, John G. Shumilo. Mary Lou lit up any room she walked into. She would always greet everyone with a precious smile. As you know Mary Lou never left the house without her make-up, hair, her nails done and her jewelry. She always looked beautiful. Mary Lou and John enjoyed spending time at their lake home up North. She loved to cook and entertain with her family and friends. One of her favorite pastimes was playing Mahjong every Wednesday with her friends. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and dear friend who will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughters, Renee (Dave) Carlson, and Diane Shumilo, her grandchildren, Brandon, Katelyn, Paige, and Ashley and by her stepsister, Carla Riley.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 3, 2023 from 4-7pm at DeFiore Funeral Home-10763 Dundee Road, Huntley, IL. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 4, 2023 at 10:00am at St. Mary Catholic Church, with a visitation one hour prior all at the Church -10307 Dundee Road, Huntley. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association.
