Obituary

Donald Jones, age 88, of Huntley, Illinois, passed away peacefully with his children by his side on November 2, 2023. He was preceded in death by his father Virgil, mother Mary, sisters Kathy and Betty, and his beloved wife, Carolyn.
Don was born on June 3rd, 1935, in Herrin, Illinois to Virgil and Mary Jones. Moving often, the Jones family settled in northwest Indiana when Don was in high school. Following one year at Wabash College in Indiana, Don joined the Army in 1954 and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. After his service to his country for three years, Don graduated from Indiana University and became a Certified Public Accountant working for a major firm in Chicago. Having moved to Hoffman Estates, Don raised two children, Patricia and David, with his first wife Rita. In retirement, Don and his second wife, Carolyn retreated to the seclusion of central Minnesota. But Illinois soon lured them back, and they settled in Aurora. At last, in 2015, Don and Carolyn moved to Del Webb’s Sun City in Huntley where both had been active in neighborhood and community affairs.
In life Don was at times an artist who worked in various media, a photographer, a calligrapher, a craftsman, a woodworker, a poet, a luthier, a black powder-era reenactor, an oenophile, a collector of stamps and coins, a humorist (as all fathers naturally are), and a lover of nature. He was also a neighbor who had strong relationships with those who lived near him.
Don is survived by his children: Patricia Jones Sarrels and David Jones. Carolyn’s children: Tracy Pratt (married to Richard), Pam Boehm (married to Mike), and Marc Moeller. His grandchildren: Aiden, Zachary, and Bee Jones, Megan, Jeffery, and Michael Boehm, and Logan and Kyle Pratt.
Don is also survived by his first wife Rita.
