Peter Leicht

Obituary

Peter Joseph Leicht, 73, of Huntley, died peacefully in his home on November 8, 2023.
Peter was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on April 28, 1950, to parents John and Jane (nee Anderson) Leicht. After being set up on a blind date with Nancy LeBeau, the couple married on August 16, 1969.
Peter was exceptionally hard working, a man of many talents. He worked most of his life as a professional carpenter and general contractor who was as dedicated to his trade as he was to his family. Everything he built by hand was top notch quality. You knew if he was working on it then it would be done right. He believed in a job well done and would do his work meticulously. He would do anything for anyone that asked and loved to work on different house projects. He enjoyed golf, model trains, and cheering for the Green Bay Packers. He was man of few words but was dedicated to his family. He was kind-hearted and will be missed dearly by all who knew him.

Peter is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Nancy Leicht, his children, Paul (Amber) Leicht, Todd (Jennifer) Leicht, and Sarah (David) Garcia, his grandchildren, Mikayla, Aaron, Nathan, Barrett, and Jaxon, his siblings, Priscilla Levine, Larry (Sandy) Leicht, Christine (Marty) Klemm, Liz Nichols, Andrew (Kye) Leicht, Tom (Lori) Leicht, and Patricia (Jim) Ward, his sister-in-law, Elaine Leicht, his brother-in-law, Michael (Magdalena) LeBeau, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Tim Leicht, his brother-in-law, Marc Levine, and his brother-in-law, Mike Wolowic.

Visitation will be Tuesday, November 14, 2023, from 4 p.m. to time of prayers 6:30 p.m. all at DeFiore Funeral Home, 10763 Dundee Road, Huntley.

So sorry for your loss Nancy. Unable to travel as I can’t leave Mike alone very long and he is not able to travel due to his health issues. Did Peter tell you he and I talked in the phone a few weeks ago? Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Paul, Todd, and Sara. I have sent a perpetual Mass enrollment to the house.

Perfection! It is not often that a person can be described in a single word, but I believe Peter was the kind of man who could be. He strove for perfection in everything he did whether it was for himself, his family, his friends, or his clients. He was just that kind of guy. Someone who had an incredible attention to detail and was never satisfied until things were perfect. I remember when he first discovered his love for carpentry in Ann Arbor when he started renovating antiques. He achieved a level of perfection in every piece he touched that would have made the original craftsman proud. Later as he moved on to tackle projects in his own home, or renovating furniture, or the many projects he did for others, he brought that same level of perfection to every job he did. And then, of course, there is the perfection he achieved in his personal life in raising such a wonderful family. I am most happy and proud of the way he loved and cared for my sister for more than 55 years. Peter is someone who will surely be missed but mostly someone who will be remembered for all the good he did, the joy he gave and the love he shared over the years. Sheer perfection!

We were deeply saddened at Peter’s passing. We new the Leicht’s for many years. We lived across the street from them on Cooper Court in Elk Grove Village. Our children were the same age and played together. We send our very deepest sympathies and condolences to the families.
